I was pleasantly surprised by this little gem, hidden away at the bottom of Mount St, a glass and greenery encased restaurant at the front of the Riverview on Mount St Hotel. It has a small, intimate atmosphere, and serves "Asian Fusion" cuisine, which was astoundingly tasty. With exceedingly fresh flavours including lemongrass, chilli, mint, ginger, lime, coriander, and rather novel dishes, we were both amazed that we had stayed at the hotel numerous times and neglected to eat here. We shared a couple of magnificent dishes, including the coffee braised pork belly (which was tender and divine!) and the 5 spice duck with hoisin - stunningly tasty and crispy, we even fought over who got the last piece! Each dish was served with ginger pickled vegetables and rice, they were just a flavour explosion for the tastebuds! The desserts were also quite novel, I had the tapioca and fruit (pomegranate and watermelon I think) and my husband had the Affogato ice cream with Frangelico liquer and espresso coffee (all served as one dish). Also delightful, as was the salted chocolate caramel (had to try one of this), a mix of sweet and salty, rich but 'morish'. We also received an infusion of lemongrass and ginger to clear the palate afterwards - which was awesome at relieving morning sickness!!!
The restaurant was licensed, they were able to recommend appropriate wines to complement their dishes, and each item on the dinner menu was approximately $25 per dish. The restaurant was open for breakfast and lunch also, as well as takeaway coffee, however we never had an opportunity to try the dishes served at these times. I understand that reservations are taken, although we were lucky enough to be able to walk in and be seated immediately, tables are available both indoor and outdoor, with views of Jacobs ladder at some points, as well as leafy Mount St which seems popular for exercise as well. Didn't see anything on the menu for children at the dinner service, not really a family restaurant though. The only downside for us was the size of the portions, we both would have liked a little more, otherwise the meal was outstanding.
