“Fitting end to a great week in Perth”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

This was my second Sebel experience, having just checked out of the Sebel Mandurah. It took me two visits to discover the east side of Perth and a couple of walk bys to find the entrance to this hotel, so low key was its signage.

The Sebel is situated on the edge of a cove in one of Perth's best residential areas. It is a reasonable size complex with a number of eateries along the bottom, beside the promenade. The Sebel Residence does not have its own restaurant, but you can arrange to charge back meals at around six local establishments. What I did miss was having a hotel bar to go down to after returning from a days sightseeing. My room was very comfortable and I liked the kitchen bench and microwave oven provided.
I was concerned about the noise level coming from restaurants and bars below me, but that disappeared when I discovered that they all closed at 11pm.

East Perth is a great area to explore and stay in. The walk around the cove and surrounding area is a picture taking paradise and it is a short walk to the WACA. the yellow CAT bus service is around 50m from the door. When I return to Perth I will be more than happy to stay at the Sebel Residence again.

Here is a frank review. On balance this hotel was a good experience. It is in a very handy location if you need to be near the city but would rather not be on a city street. The river at your door, with lovely coffee shops and eateries surrounding it. The rooms were clean and functional. The staff were cheerful and helpful. With a tidy kitchenette we had the choice to eat in or out. The layout of the room was at times frustrating.. you could really only sit on the bed to eat, if you wanted to watch TV. The light switches were in odd places. These are things that you can get used to. My travelling companion slept well while I tossed and turned on the unforgiving hard bed. Parking under the hotel was something of a lottery, never quite sure if there was going to be a spot or not. The gym was disappointing. But really these are minor things.
The staff were friendly, the room was clean when we arrived and we felt like we had Perth at our doorstep. That's enough!

Location great. Room not to bad, luckily I had my allergy medication with me, heater/air con unit, was very dirty and dusty, blew out a lot for rubbish. Not an ideal spot if you are hiring or taking your own car cost a fortune in parking very limited spaces and at $26 a night, was a bit rich for a guest.

Stayed here as a wedding anniversary treat in the "superior studio river" which was spacious, well lit, clean and very well equipped. Good kitchen with dishwasher. Spacious lounge and dining area. Outdoor balcony had fantastic view over the water. The reception staff were very friendly and after a few days it felt like a second home.

The free Yellow Cat bus stops just outside the hotel every 10 mins, which means you are close to the city centre (10 mins ride), but in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood. Great walks through the park and along the river. Highly recommended to those who want luxury without being stuck in a high-rise, city centre hotel.

Room Tip: River-side rooms are well worth the extra cost, as the river views and location are what make this p...

There is little in East Perth that can be faulted. fantastic dining options, picturesque settings and an all 'roundbgreat vibe.
As returning customers to the Sebel, we were excited and looking forward to our overnight stay. On this occasion we were given room 313, which for those of you who haven't stayed here, is located on ground level, 2 metres from communal stairs which is about 20 metres from The Royal outdoor dining/bar area. By 4.15pm we already had a taste of the restaurant's noise and patron drunkeness which would follow. We went to reception and asked about the possibility of relocating due to the noise, however we were advised we would only be relocated if we were happy to upgrade which would cost an additional $110. This was not an option to us and it is disappointing to know there are unused rooms, whilst existing and returning customers remain unsatisfied. Second time and last time here.

Dear Sandra S,

Thank you for your comments regarding your return stay with us in June. I offer my sincere apologies that your night with us was interrupted by noise issues, and that this was not resolved to your expectations.

We work very closely with our surrounding restaurants to ensure that our guests and residents are not inconvenienced by patrons leaving their establishments, so I will certainly be reviewing this incident with them, to ensure it does not re-occur. We appreciate that you have returned for us for a second visit, and I am sorry that it was not to your satisfaction.

We would be delighted to have an oppotunity to welcome you back though, and ensure that you are located in a room more to your liking.

We travel to Perth twice per year for 2 months for my partner's job. Normally we stay in the same company leased house but it was not available this trip. Sebel offers some of the best "home away from home" apartments that I've seen. The area in which the hotel is located offers a beautiful environment for walks and is a fairly convenient walk to the train station for strips into downtown Perth. The front desk staff is all very friendly with Daniel and Dow being especially friendly and attentive. There are some negatives: 1. The housekeeping staff seems very wary towards guests and the housekeeping manager seems to have a slight chip on her shoulder. Also why on earth do they use canister vacuums with wands rather than motorized brush uprights for cleaning the larger areas of carpet? 2. The combination washer/dryer takes a LONG time to wash and even longer to dry. For longer term guests a stacked washer and separate dryer would do well which Mantra on Hay offers. The dishwasher works well enough but is on the small side and would be better if it was full sized. A last POSITIVE note is that our car battery went dead and the hotel maintenance man (forgot his name) was very kind to jump the car for us.

Room Tip: Get a room with a river view. The view is gorgeous especially at night when the walking bridge ligh...

Dear Allan G,

Thank you for your feedback after your recent stay with us with your partner.

I am delighted to see that you enjoyed the hotel and the surroundings, and thank you very much for your comments regarding our staff, particularly Daniel, Dow and Stan - our maintenance office who assisted with your car! It is a pleasure to receive such feedback and I will be sure to share with the team.

Thank you also for your comments regarding our housekeeping staff and systems which I will be discussing with our housekeeping manager to review opportunities to improve what we offer.

We hope you have had safe travels home, and we look foward to welcoming you both back again in the near future.
