“Very pleasant hotel in a great location”
Reviewed November 13, 2011

Sebel Residence is a surprise in every sence. We made a booking some time beforehand and had not checked it, yet when we arrived everything was exactly as we had arranged - right down to the parking space in the basement. The hotel is modern and stylish in appearance and in the facilities it provides.
Rooms are comfortable and spacious, with a small fully equipped kitchen if you want to do your own thing instead of visiting the many restaurants and cafes in the same complex. A supermarket and liquor outlet are over the road if you need supplies.
It is the riverside setting that make the place so stunningly beautiful, with walks along the shoreline or around the East Perth area so easy to do and so beautiful to enjoy. Transport into the city is very easy and cheap with the free CAT bus stopping outside and a rail station nearby.

Room Tip: River view rooms are bound to be great, but we enjoyed our street view and ample balcony too.

I would like to thank the staff at Sebal. I have stayed at the Sebel in East Perth a few times now and i always have a lovely time. Lots of space, great bath, fantastic views from the balcony. I highly reccommend and will stay there again in the near future. Thank you.

Room Tip: Bigger rooms have bigger balconys. Your choice what you prefer.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a wonderful stay in the hotel. The reception and housekeeping staff were very welcoming and accomodating. We were pleasantly surprised by the clean and spacious apartment with great kitchenette ameneties. There was a great choice of restaurants and bars available within a short walk from the hotel - we highly recommend a meal at Partisan - and the Perth CBD is easily accessible by CAT or taxi. Overall, an enjoyable and comfortable stay - thank you.

Highly Recommended. I was looking something more than the ordinary and the Sebel Residence in East Perth delivered on every factor.
A late booking request was handled quickly and easily, and importantly i was ensured of a great view and also of the luxurious bath in the room which my partner and i were looking forward to.
check in happened quickly and the staff were polite and helpful to my requests.
The view from the balcony was more than i could have wanted and hard to beat in Perth with plenty of room on the balcony making it comfortable to enjoy.
A real touch of class. amenities in the room were great. our cooking needs were small but the apartment facilities could have easily handled so much more.
And the bed, lovely and comfortable, such a quiet environment around Claisebrook Cove, not a sound was heard during the night.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: the 1 bedroom apartment with river view was exactly what we wanted but the location and facilities a...

I'm an ex-Perth'ite, so I know the city pretty well. I also know that the East Perth area of the city isn't exactly the best place to be either. Sure, it's been revitalised and a few restaurants have been dotted about, but it's really a very dead, dull and boring area to be in.

Location aside, the hotel itself looked promising when I checked in. It's a nice clean open check-in area, staff were pretty helpful and friendly, and the outdoor area leading to the pool and views of the water was a nice spot. I was booked in for 3-nights, and at approx $280 a night (!!!), I was quietly hoping that things were looking up.

The troubles started to hit when I got to my room.

I was on the top floor (3rd, I think), in a City View room. Not good. The 'view' is of a relatively busy intersection with a bus stop directly opposite. It was noisy and spending time out on the balcony was unappealing to say the least. If you really had to stay at this place, I'd opt for a 'Water View' room on the opposite side.

The room itself was a little tired and dark, but more disappointing was the smell - a cross between damp carpet and mouldy drains. On closer inspection I think it was a drain issue from the bathroom. It also revealed a lack of thoroughness on the house-keeper's part - lots of missed areas of grime and goop. Uuurrggh.

The internet service was also incredibly poor. It's free (provided you sign up to their loyalty program at check in), but it only gives you something like 500mb a day limit. Fine if you're just checking emails, but no good if you want to have a few Skype chats or watch any streaming video.

The other oddity was that there was no ice in the fridge. There was an ice tray, which was great; but there was no actual ice/freezer compartment in the fridge itself, which meant you couldn't actually make ice! They even had an ice bucket in the room too.
I rang reception to ask for ice, but apparently they didn't have any. Well done to the receptionist, who after 15mins came to my room with a ice tray containing about 4 really shallow cubes (must have found it at the back of a freezer somewhere), but it looked so frosty and old that I didn't use it.

Man, I really hate complaining about hotel stays, because generally they're always pretty good. But, I have to say, out of all the places I've paid decent money to stay at, this was by far the least deserving of my money, and one of the most disappointing properties I've stayed in, full stop.

I would not recommend staying here at all. Try something (anything) closer to the city, West Perth or Subiaco.

Room Tip: Avoid any road facing rooms - ie City View. It's too noisy and the view is a little depressing...

I suspect that if I had a room on the water side of the building this would be a different review, however I had a room 1 floor above the restaurant on the street side of the hotel beside a large traffic intersection. So, very noisy with no views.

Location - East Perth gives a few opportunities for dinner (maybe 6 restaurants open at night) and has a small IGA supermarket. Apart from that it is a taxi ride to anywhere.

Room - was OK. Bathroom's are starting to get a bit dated, but the rest was fresh and clean. I stayed in a studio apartment, which had a little kitchenette but did not have a table to eat at, so it was a bit awkward to have breakfast in the room. Like I said earlier , very noisy with no ambience at all. Couldn't even open the balcony door without getting deafened by traffic.

Fitness - If you are a runner it offers the opportunity to put in some serious distance along the side of the Swan river which is a beautiful run. Hotel to King's Park and back is about 10k. The hotel 'gym' was very poor. Basically a cramped sealed box (no windows) with too much cardio gear (treadmill, recumbent, elliptical & rower) crammed in along with a basic cable station. No free weights and no benches.

Room Tip: Demand something on the water side of the building

These apartments are very spacious and well appointed. Its not a hotel - the rooms are only serviced every 3 days. The location is a relatively new development in East Perth and a relatively quiet location, though there is traffic noise if you leave the balcony doors open. There is a very nice pub with good food in the same complex and quite a few inexpensive local restaurants nearby. Its really a taxi ride into central Perth, or a fairly long walk. For a long term stay this would be very comfortable. For short term stays it probably depends on why you are in Perth.
