“Affordable, just out of the centre, comfy”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

As usual, we chose this by looking for cheap rates for the period we wanted where there were no damning (and preferably some positive!) reviews, and with a location that looked suitable on a map.

Perth has a reputation for being expensive, so we were happy to find accommodation at $135 per night. We didn't need parking but there was some first-come-first-served (probably enough for about 1/3 of the units).

It was a self-catered unit; kitchen equipment was sufficient if we had wanted to cook for ourselves (gas range plus microwave). Coffee/tea supplies and toilet paper were replenished, beds made and towels changed. There was a bath with an over-bath shower; the shower head was quite low and the space to shower quite narrow. Soap was provided, but no shampoo.

I note at least one review criticising the bed and bedding, but we found the bed perfect and the pillows sufficient too.

The location is technically just outside the CBD in East Perth, but it's still pretty accessible. One of the free city bus circuits runs very close by, Barrack St Jetty is not far, and the edge of the main retail area is an easy walk. The entertainment precinct of Northbridge is a little further, say 25-30 minutes.

We would stay here again. While you might think of being 'further in', everything in and near the CBD is spread thinly along the north bank of the Swan River, so you're going to have to walk or use transport wherever you stay.

Room Tip: Three floors, no lift, so if you have trouble with stairs ask for a ground floor room. Units open i...

Firstly, Perth is expensive for accommodation and unless you are on business expenses or have a high budget I think the price I paid for City Waters was excellent value for money.

The property is simple and pretty basic but is centrally located and very clean. The staff are very pleasant and always willing to help.

I think some of the reviews are a little harsh as I sometimes wonder why people book low priced accommodation and expect five star luxury, personally, the Apartments had everything I needed, the bed was one of the comfiest I have slept in, the kitchen was well stocked, and the bathroom clean. There is a laundry and it is so close to the CBD that you can walk, or if you are not into walking, 5 minutes and you can take the free Perth bus.

There is wifi, AU$10 per day or AU$50 per week which is a little pricey, I did avail of it for a day but it wasn't particularly fast and kept dropping out, I think I was just too far away from the router so I can't really blame the hotel for that.

I would happily stay here again and totally recommend it.

stayed here for a week in May and found this place very basic and dated. We were quite taken aback when we arrived and saw how dark and dreary the apartments are, it reminded us of a 1960's block of council flats that have never been upgraded. We asked to move across to the block opposite just so we could get a little more sunlight in the room. On the plus side the location is very good, just across the road from the Swan river and a short walk to the CBD and the reception staff are very friendly. Not a cheap option , but nothing in Perth is.The Having said that we made the most of a bad lot and had a nice stay. would we recommend city waters for a stay? only if you want basic accommodation and are on a tight budget.

Room Tip: get a room on the top floor and check which side gets the most sunlight

In a city full of average standard, over-priced hotels it can be a struggle to find something that gives a modicum of value for money.

City Waters is a basic property, with very dated furnishings, but it's in a great location opposite the river and it's clean.

If you are watching the dollars and don't need luxury, this is worth considering.

Have to say that the location was the best part of the stay. Opposite of Swan river and a beautiful park. Sadly, the lobby wasn't a 24 hour lobby as we arrived at 6am, with a baby may I add. So. Wasn't a great welcome for us... Facilities were average, they have the basics such microwave, stove, fridge, Telly, and laundry services. Minus the interior which was a reminiscence of mr bean's apartment. But if ure out most of the time like us, than that wouldn't be a factor. Then again, it's Perth where everything closes at 5pm..... Best for family on a budget like us!

Picked this accommodation solely on price and location. Checked the reviews and it seemed like it would be value for money for one night. I tried booking online and even though the process completed online when I phoned the next day (day of arrival) the booking hadn't been received by the management so I had to rebook.

Because we arrived early parking was no problem, but as is the case with most inner city properties it filled quickly leaving only the street (and the ubiquitous parking revenue raisers) if you miss out. Once parked you don't need your car to get to the city centre which can be walked to (10-15 minutes) or a free bus ride (all buses free in the city zone) from Adelaide Tce. Northbridge is about 25 minutes walk with plenty of food options. We ordered a pizza from the recommended "All Night Pizza" in Vic park and were very disappointed. The river is only a couple of minutes walk across a park.

The room we had was a "Double/Single", a single room with a kitchen and bathroom. It has the a single bed and a queen size bed. The room is nothing flash. The pillows were old and flat, the mattresses were also on the worn side. There is a basic flat screen TV, aircon (which was not that efficient and we were pleased we didn't have to rely on it in heat) The kitchen is equipped with all necessities and would be sufficient for most stays. The bathroom is compact. The room could do with a good scrub, but wasn't filthy. The bed cover was a bit (dirt) stained, there was a little mould in the bathroom grout. We did have a visit from a mouse!

City Waters doesn't promise luxury but it was, for a city property, reasonable value and I would consider staying again. The close proximity to the city centre is the real selling point.

Room Tip: Book over the phone.

The City Waters Motel is clean, comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. In a city where accomodation is ridiculously over priced it is nice to have an affordable option in a great location.
The rooms are not fancy but have flat screen tvs, convection microwave ovens, cook tops, clean bathrooms and comfy beds.
The location is great-it is about 800m walk to the malls but you are right next to the river and not far from the Barrack Street Jetty.
I would stay again.

Room Tip: Be friendly-it may get you a nicer room.
