We got to Perth without having a reservation anywhere, and struggled to find a place to stay because it was the International Perth Arts Festival.
This place was incredibly sketchy. We arrived at the hostel around midday, but there was no one at the reception, so we had to wait until someone came back.
They put us in a private room called "The Snug" - if you can call it a room. Our room consisted of 2 of the house's exterior walls (one which used to have a window to one of the dorm rooms which had been boarded up) and 2 sheets of plywall. We had a window with no curtains or blinds, and there was a bright light right ouside the window at night.
We had to go outside and through the bar area to get to the bathroom.
The bathrooms were disgusting! It loked like they were very rarely cleaned.
There was a free bus that took you into the city, which stopped almost at the front door. It was only a few minutes on the bus, so not very far.
After our night there, we moved to their "Penthouse apartment" a minute away from the hostel. This was 75$ a night, and we had a private room in a 2 bed apartment. We had to share the bathroom with only one other couple. They had talked up the apartment, but when we got there it was a glorified dump. The other couple had bed bugs, but we did not see any in our room. The furniture in the living room was disguting, as was the carpet. The kitchen floors were incredibly sticky, but there was a washing machine at no cost. There was also a pool and a nice view from the balcony.
