“OK for the price”

At $16 a night, it's probably one of the cheapest places to stay in Perth City. There is also free 24hr street parking (rare in any big city). The place is essentially a converted sharehouse, rooms weren't the cleanest. We got bitten by mosquitoes and other bugs... however the staff were very friendly and most helpful. It's also a great place to meet foreign travellers, with a great relaxed social atmosphere.

Room Tip: Service was excellent, as was value. Where else can you stay in Perth for close to $16?

Hello Jason,

Thankyou for the time taken to write your review.

I am glad to see that you found 'Planet Inn' to be an enjoyable experience and that you found the staff to be helpful.

In regards to the cleanliness of the rooms, several protocols are now being put in place and there shall be a significant improvement that will be seen immediately. Fly screens are being repaired/installed as we speak and as a result, the amount of mosquitos and other bugs that manage to enter the room will be reduced making sure that our guests enjoy a good nights sleep.

Once again thankyou for your feedback and hope to see you again soon!

I have never written a hostel review before but felt the need too for this one. The staff here are absolutely ridiculously rude. If you book in you are not actually guaranteed to have a bed upon arrival as they are constantly overbooking. A lot of the time people are either told to sleep on the sofa or if you are lucky they may throw someone who has been staying there for a long time out of their bed and put them on the sofa instead, Infact I saw a man sleeping on pillows in the hallway too. They say there is a "bar" in the hostel so you cannot bring in your own alcohol but infact this is a cupboard with some beer in it. Only the manager who is never ever there is allowed to sell this alcohol so infact you cannot drink at all. They throw people out all the time for no reason at all apart from the fact they have overbooked so much they have to throw out 10 people (and dont even give them a refund.)

This hostel treats backpackers terribly.

Hello,

We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us at Planet Inn.

As we are well into our busy season, the beds do fill up quickly. Those who are booked in are guaranteed a bed for the duration of their stay and are encouraged to visit reception ASAP if they wish to extend to prevent losing their bed. Unfortunately, there are instances where beds aren't rebooked in time and there may not be enough space to accomodate them.

The bar in the hostel is a licensed bar which is why no alcohol that has been purchased outside the hostel can be consumed or stored on the property and is open from 6pm daily by our RSA approved staff.

We do have a 'No-refund' policy and this is signposted upon the check-in desk. If a guest does require to leave early, they recieve a credit note for the remaining nights of their stay to use whenever thay wanted.

Hope this addresses the issues raised in your review.

Warm regards,
Laura

Well we arrived at the airport at 2am and rang the hostel for our transfers 30 times with no answer. Had to get a taxi and arrived to a nasty looking hostel. After going in to no management or anybody working there we were told by guests to sleep on the settee which was disgusting. There was a big hole in the wall so the wind was blowing on me all night. Finally got our room at 11.30 the next day. It was disgusting, clothes chucked everywhere and stunk. I later discovered that 200 fags were stolen out my bag. It was a very unfriendly place and it felt like you shouldn't be there. Everyone just sits around n don't seem to want to leave, which I felt was strange. Every time we had been out n got back it was depressing and it was said 'welcome back to hell' ... If u want to feel safe do not visit this place we payed for four nits and lasted one. Never to go back.

Location of the hostel was great free bus service to the city outside the door and Leederville down the road with nice cafes and shops. Free pick up from the airport, management was very helpfull, we had a private room basic but good value, good kitchen facilities nice outdoor area and tv room. Friendly place.

I have stayed in many cheap hostels and I never expected much from as you get what you pay but this hostel is just a joke. The hostel is situated in Northbridge which is about a fifteen walk from the city, Northbridge itself is a pretty rough area. The hostel itself was truely awful, it was filthy, reception was never open, the kitchen was dirty, half the time there was no hot water in the showers. The staff were rude and very unhelpful for example, there were mice in our room and staff weren't willing make any effort to get rid of them. There were often people sleeping on the couches in the TV room as the manager often overbooked. You also cannot drink because the hostel has a 'bar', which is basically just a cupboard with a few cartons of beers, however there was never anybody around to sell them to us. We stayed in a four bed dorm but the manager let couples pay for a discounted rate to share one bed which meant at one point there were eight people in the dorm making it really cramped. We often had sleepless nights as people (the manager included) would play the dukebox really loud until five in the morning. all in all it was a terrible experience.

Just don't stay there.

We arrived in Perth, excited about getting to our accommodation to head out for dinner. We got a free lift to the Planet Inn from a lovely Irish gentlemen who was knowledgeable of the area and we took out bags inside. We foolishly paid up front before being taken to our room which was situated at the rear of the property, it had cracked walls, the window didn't close and the door barely locked. We stayed for a few moments before heading to reception to reclaim our money and call a taxi to get out of there.
There were mainly old men there that didn't give the feel of a comfortable travellers environment. it was loud, dirty and we couldn't even bring ourselves to use the bathroom while waiting for our taxi. Needless to say, they kept our $140+ dollars that we had paid them and we ended up in the Travelodge in the city centre as everywhere else was booked out.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Just don't stay here. Bedbugs, disgusting kitchen, gross crusty carpets, no hot water (in kitchen or in showers). Reception was empty a lot of the time, we waited one hour to check-in in the middle of the day. Cockroaches everywhere, including in kitchen. And to make things worse, you can't even "numb the pain" of living here because you can't drink your own and it's $4 a beer. Internet connection works sometimes but not reliable (one guy lost a job offer because he couldn't call back with skype).
Found it online, DO NOT stay here. Check gumtree for short term accommodation. You can find a nice furnished place closer to the beach, for cheaper!

Room Tip: No good rooms here!
