“Not Bad!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2012

Had a nice romantic evening in a Club room. Pre dinner drinks and canapes in the Club room is great, tho we didn't take up the breakfast due to being so full still from the night before. The hotel is very clean, lobby very attractive. Staff all friendly and helpful. No probs with check in. Room clean, tidy, spacious. Bed very comfy, so was the lounge. Not sure if the hotel was full or not, but unlike many hotel rooms were heard no sounds from outside, which is pleasant. We had a few drinks the lobby bar, which was nice, comfy seats. Dined with 5 others at The Grill. The food was divine!! Service could have been better, but in all a good night.
Like every where in Perth not exactly cheap, but we thought it was fine.

Hotel is large, with slightly dated feel; it is next to the Perth concert hall and local parks. we had a good room with a view across the Swan River. Breakfast had a wide choice. An enjoyable 2 night stay, on business.

My husband and I stayed at the Duxton hotel for a Saturday night in a Deluxe room including the buffet breakfast. The lobby and public areas are luxurious and attractive, but the rooms aren't similarly spectacular. They are clean and spacious, but missing the little touches that you would expect of a hotel of this class. Perhaps the club rooms are better. Check-in was fast and efficient, but checkout on the sunday morning was interminable, especially for those waiting for valet parking. The location is a good walk from the centre of town, and handy to the bars and restaurants around the clocktower on the river bank. The breakfast buffet is pretty good, as evidenced by the number of people from outside the hotel joining hotel guests, but I don't think I would bother. I'd probably give it 3½ stars if that were possible, but not four.

We stayed overnight on the 11th floor, the room was lovely, clean and our floor was very quiet. We found that the room was on par with some other 5 star hotels. The room we stayed in was roomy, the bathroom was very clean and spacious, a nice big bath to soak in too. It was strange having worked in the building years ago when it was the ATO, they have done an excellent job and the entrance and bar areas are fantastic. We had a good night sleep, king bed was very comfortable. The one thing that stood out besides the decor was the staff and how friendly and attentive they were. We would stay at the hotel again. It isn't a far taxi ride to Casino etc.

Spent a lovely afternoon at the Duxton having high tea with a friend. The staff where very accommodating and the food was lovely.

The price for what you got was a bit expensive but loved my afternoon tea. $34 for tea and a few cakes a bit much but I guess you are paying for the wonderful service and good service.

The Duxton is one of those hotels that is hard to classify. The building itself is non de script; and I understand that prior to being turned into a hotel the building was the home of the Australian Taxation office in Perth.

Old office buildings don't necessarily make good hotels, and some of the rooms are oddly shaped. I was upgraded to the Presidential Suite, which was curiously proportioned, but admittedly extremely comfortable and clean.

The Duxton is well placed on St George's Terrance and provides excellent access to the CBD for the business traveller, and it is an easy walk to the restaurants of Northbridge.

The staff at the Duxton were helpful and friendly and the service generally stood out as excellent.

In the end I guess what the Duxton ultimately lack is personality. That said, it is a very nice, comfortable and convenient place to stay, and those attributes are sufficient reasons in themselves to stay at the Duxton.

Travelled on business for 2 nights. The location of this hotel is fantastic, smack dam in the middle of the city. You can walk anywhere within the CBD of Perth which was fantastic not too many cab rides.

The lobby was grand, reception staff was wonderful and so were the bell desk staff, very friendly and welcoming. Porters brought my luggage to my room which was a nice touch. I stayed in a referbished deluxe room overlooking the river. The view is really something special and highly recommend to stay on the back side of the hotel. Room size is sufficient not oversized but good.

The referb seemed half done but was tasteful. Bed wasn't comfortable what so ever and woke up both mornings with a sore back. I think new beds are in order here !!

You do get a pillow menu but would rather have a heavingly bed to sleep in than a pillow menu that you don't use. The water pressure in the shower was shocking. I could hardly get a decent stream and the water temperature kept changing every 30 seconds. It's like the hotels water system was faulty. The bathroom is quite dated and this really was a disappointment more so the fact that I couldn't have a decent shower !!!

Breakfast was great though and the selection was good. I expected a higher level of finishes at a hotel that claims to be five star.
