“Good hotel, good stay.”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

I stayed at the Perth Ambassador for three nights while in the city for work. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon so the traffic wasn't too bad and the hotel was easy to find. During the week it wasn't as easy as the traffic is heavy (as is norm on a main inner city road) and I also had to run the gauntlet of buses that use the left hand lane. There is onsite parking, at an extra cost to the guest. Because the car park is open to the public it can be quite full during the day.

As noted by other reviewers the welcome at reception isn't particularly warm. This could be a cultural issue, most of the staff seem to be recent arrivals with limited English skills.

My room on the 5th floor was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean but hasn't been updated in a while. The plug holes are rusting out from age. Each day the bed is made and towels changed but whiskers from my first shave were still there when I checked out. There is a movie channel on the tv. It costs, I was told $19- $30 PER MOVIE! You can buy a dvd for less. The tv has the Perth digital stations and a few foxtel channels so I didn't need the movies.

The restaurant has fantastic service. The dinner menu is good, the food comes quickly and desserts are awesome. The hot breakfast is extensive, but the food is cold. The bainmarie needs to be turned up a bit.

Overall a good stay and I would stay again.

Although not centrally located, this hotel has free buses into the city or it's about a 10 minute walk. The room I had was clean and comfortable and I really appreciated the free wifi. Breakfast was an excellent buffet choice. No room service, but a system of takeaway from the hotel kitchen. Didn't use it but prices looked reasonable. This is a sister hotel, a bit more upmarket, to The Good Earth across the road, which I have also stayed at and is just fine.

Room Tip: I had a room next door to a cleaning store room, so no noise from neighbours! I've forgotten the...

As a female business traveller I found the Ambassador to be a great place to stay. My room (611) was clean, spacious with a huge window that filled the room with sunlight. Definitely the cheapest room service meals I have ever found.

We spent 10 nights at this hotel visiting family who live close by.

We took the 'Connect - Shuttle Bus' from Perth Airport to our hotel (2 adults - $45 return trip) On arrival the hotel staff were friendly and efficient. In the front foyer were many tourist brochures and the staff were happy to provide tourist information.

Our room was clean and spacious ...... it was a bit dated but everything worked. We liked the separate bath and shower, which gave the sense of spaciousness. The flat screen TV worked well (particularly important for the Olympics) and the wireless internet (FREE) was very reliable.

Room service was good and all the staff seemed happy and friendly. We had a 'Continental Breakfast' each day (fresh fruit & yoghurt; cereal, toast and coffee) and found this to be quite adequate.($13 per person) Once again the staff were helpful and friendly.

We were out every day and were able to walk to town quite easily. Buses in front of the hotel are regular and in the city vicinity are free. There are mini supermarkets within a block or two and a post office and liquor store in the next street (Hay street).

The check out procedure was efficient and the staff were friendly.

This hotel makes you feel at home ...... the staff are multilingual which is important for overseas visitors.

The only negative comment is the air conditioning ...... we found it too warm and were unable to alter it as it is set centrally (we have experienced this previously ..... especially in Europe and UK) . We will definitely return.

this is an old hotel, but has been renovated to a high standard. Rooms are all suites, big, new TVs, large bathroom.
the level of staff service attention to detail is good, room was very clean, well presented. Hotel was quiet, no traffic noise, or neighbour room noise. Car parking is available at rear of hotel for $12 / day. room rates are not at the high end, but still min $240/ night.
Hotel is right in the city, so is quick to most places.
you can get takeaway room service food from restaurant downstairs, which is cheap by perth standards.

Room Tip: get a suite high up

I liked the place, I found the staff very friendly and happy to assist me with my many questions, as I have not been to Perth since I was 7! Lol.

Had dinner and the food was nice and reasonably priced for what I wanted. Room was clean, I stayed in I think they call it a club room and it was nice. Very big, living room and bedroom.

As a very frequent traveller both domestic and internationally over the last 30 years this is possibly the saddest establishment I've ever had the misfortune to be stuck at. Think Faulty towers without the humour. Rooms are old, dirty, & noisy. Although there is a thermostat on the wall, it is disabled, giving you no temperature control, rendering the room stuffy & claustrophobic. Then there's the bed, smelly & broken - (best not to think too much about it) The location is remote & there is no room service (you have to go get it yourself) The dodgy elevators are rickety & slow. The staff are at best indifferent and the manager a rude & belligerent piece of work who is clearly not after repeat business. I think you have the general idea by now... You have been warned !
