Owner description: The main attraction is the museum's extensive collection of Aboriginal artifacts, but yes, there's a dinosaur gallery for the kids, too. *The Perth site will temporarily close from June 2016 to re-open in 2020.

“Fantastic place to visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

Went to see the Egyptian Exhibition but stayed for several hours after exploring this wonderful museum. I especially enjoyed the section on the history of the Aboriginal people. The rest of the museum tries to cover too much ground (dinosaurs, natural history, war, reptiles) but it was an engaging and rewarding visit nonetheless.

We also enjoyed the eclectic little cafe next to the museum shop. Excellent place to chill and soak in the atmosphere.

Entry is free but a donation of $5 is suggested.

“It's getting a bit old”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

We went recently to see an Egyptian exhibition which was ok but I would have liked to see a bit more artefacts etc. We also wandered around the rest of the museum but frankly it did not look like much had changed in 20+ years. It could do with a freshen up but that said it is in a magnificent building.

“Average Museum”

Perth's Museum doesn't pretend to be the best in the world and it isn't. However if this is your home town you should visit if you have travelled far and wide and been to the worlds best museums, then I wouldn't bother.

“underrated gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

the "cultural precinct" in Northbridge has definitely lifted its game and is worth a stroll round; went the the Egyptian exhibition at the Museum. i enjoy these "interactive" displays...not like the true stuffy rooms of the museums i visited as a kid. the exhibition was well presented and set out...but the real highlight was the Egyptian themed High Tea/Afternoon Tea in the Muse cafe. At $45 it seemed pricey, but as the trip was part of a special treat, it didn't matter. The tea room was quirky, cosy and suitably decorated with the Egyptian theme, the menu was perhaps more North African inspired than true Egyptian but the food was fresh, tasty, interesting...and PLENTIFUL.....we were just discussing how this was probably the fist high tea we'd ever had where we actually felt full ...when they brought out yet another plate of sweet delicacies !!!! Also being the only ones in there, we were treated like royalty !! the cafe itself is worth a visit even if you aren't visiting the museum...eclectic and quirky with great food offerings......will be back for a more general visit...AND LUNCH !!!

“Good place to visit”

The Museum has lot of information about all things about Australia. I went there during June 2013. There were displays of various precious stones and even a few pieces from a meteorite. There are other things of interest flora and fauna of Australia.
