I have been to some interesting exhibitions here. It is right near the Perth train station so it is easy to pop in and is free to wander. I like to spend small pockets of time here checking out something different each time.

Whilst the football might get more publicity, in fact more people visit the art gallery than go to football matches. Go figure!!! The travelling exhibitions are a real bonus.

I've heard rumours this place only opens every few days - it would be nice for some consistency.

Only have to pay for some of the more famous exhibits.

The gallery feels uncomfortable and stiff compared to other galleries I have seen when I've been around the world. I felt very unwelcomed.

The gallery store is really nice but a bit expensive and doesn't have that much in store.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Art Gallery of Western Australia. We very much value feedback and welcome all comments. I am very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your visit and thank you for letting us know. All comments are recorded and fed back to the relevant teams.

In regards to your comment about our opening hours, three years ago – at a time of rapidly escalating costs – it was decided that closing for one day a week was the best way to enable the Gallery maintain the quality of our exhibitions and the accompanying programs. As Tuesday is the Gallery’s quietest day, we felt if we were to close one day a week this was the day which would least inconvenience visitors. Tuesday closing also means the Gallery can remain open all weekend and on public holiday Mondays, so as not to impact visitors’ enjoyment of the Gallery over long weekends. In major cities overseas most cultural institutions close one day a week, for example the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. In Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria is also closed on Tuesdays.

We have also found that by being closed one day a week our staff have been able to accomplish tasks, such as major work installation and collection care, which they were unable to undertake during Gallery opening hours; thus minimising disruption to visitors on the other six days of the week.

Again, thank you for sharing and I hope this information puts some of your concerns to rest. I hope you will find the time to visit us again.
