“The saving grace are the restaurants and supermarkets around the hotel.”
Reviewed March 26, 2010

The service staff is great. They are helpful and the good thing is there's someone there round the clock. This is particularly useful if you arrive very early or very late.

We booked a 2 bedroom apt with 2 bathrooms. It's excellent for my family of 3 adults and 2 kids. The kids have room to roam around which is great. There's a small kitchen where we can do a bit of cooking.

Though the hotel is located far from the pedestrian mall, there's a few restaurants and supermarkets surrounding the hotel. A few car rental companies are just opposite the hotel which makes it very convenient for us to return the car after use. We used m2000 for the car rental because the prices were very competitive. The car was less than a year old.

I can't decide if I would stay there again because of its distance away from the main shopping stretch since shopping is one of favourite activities during a vacation. I don't exactly like the idea of lugging all my purchases and walking for a good 20 mins back to the hotel.

Stayed here for New Years night, 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. Nice enough room - poor view though, and there was an overwhelming smell of musty mothballs or similar. Had paid for 7 people (extra beds provided) for when friends came to stay later during the night. When the time came for these friends to arrive they were refused entry to our room - the staff were adamant that no extra guests can be allowed in at night, despite me getting extra beds for this purpose. Heated argument took place, they finally gave in when i insisted we were just sleeping not trying to cause a fuss. Dissapointing.

Beautiful reception, friendly staff, very clean and a nice place to stay. Awesome rooftop enclosed pool/gym area, the room was great, a 2 bedroom suite, the only negative that I can say, is that it is in the dumpy end of Perth, however very close into the CBD. Would definately stay again if I ever went back to Perth

Ok here we are back from an 8 night stay at the mantra. I'll admit to saying a couple of prayers before entering the room after reading a few of the reviews, but I also read the favourable ones and hoped for the best. We weren't dissapointed at all.
The concierge desk staff were friendly on arrival and let us check in early which was so nice as we had travelled a big distance.
Our 2 bedroom apartment was spacious, clean, modern and home from home. The extractor fan in the bathroom was a bit noisy , but hey you only need to put in on when your showering so not really an issue.
The apartment came with all the faciities of home and dishwashing powder and laundry powder to use as well.
We are a family of 5 and had no discomfort here at all. The beds are so comfortable and we heard very minimal noise in the hotel .
The hotel staff were courteous and helpful. I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again and would recommend happilly.

We paid $240 for a one bedroom apartment. We were given the ground floor. We chose to stay at the Mantra because of our very positive experience at the Mantra on Russel in Melbourne. This was a poorly lit, dingy ground floor apartment that would have suited a tired fly in fly out mine worker who might not have noticed the dirty bathroom, poor ventilation and old inefficient air condition system. I was told it was 4-4.5 stars and maybe this is so by Perth standards. The hotels here seem run down and old in this part of town. So maybe this was the best on offer, but next time I will book into the YHA in the old St John ambulance building or go to the Sebel residence in the new East Perth area. At least it's well lit and ventilated. Also never book through their main website and pay up front before you get there. Best to book through an agent where you just pay a deposit. It's also in a very boring part of town. No digital TV. Very small flat screen TV and the florescent lights are harsh on the eyes.

So i stay in perth for weeks at a time. Each time i have tried a different hotel and had bad experiences each time. So lets take a look at why i like the mantra

1) location. its just down from the WACA. Unlike many hotels in perth, this place has a good italian food place that does takeaway and eat in down the road, a small corner store. A noodle place and a pub. All the other hotels i've stayed in dont have any of this within walking distance. Buying milk used to be a pain

2) staff are really nice.

3) food is a bit Meh. $30 for a dine in breakfast and it isn't anything special. Room service is expensive and the variaty is pretty crap.

4) the best thing is that these guys have upgraded me every time i've stayed here.

5) the sheets are weird, they dont go all the way down to the bottom of the bed so your feet touch bare matress. Little bit of a turn off

6) LCD TV's with pay tv. You dont see many flat screen TV's in perth hotels.

7) In room internet is expensive. Bring your own

8) parking is $20 a day. Srs, what the hell

Apart from the bad bits, its the best place in perth i've found so far. Latisha from reception is also a bit of a looker.

Although a 20 min walk to the main centre (10mins to riverside) it was worth staying here, and the free buses make travel very easy. the apartment was clean and well serviced everyday. Good mini bar and convenient shop across the road.
