I recommend staying at The Hilton for it's proximity to King's Park and the shopping precinct. There are some lovely bars and restaurants nearby- Tiger Tiger, Belgian Bar Westende and it is only a short stroll to Northbridge where there is a mixture of bars and restaurants. When we were walking around, we noticed that other well known hotels such as Inter Continental and the Hyatt are quite a walk away from the life.
The hotel itself is one of those general "ok" hotels. The room was clean and spacious and bright but it was FREEZING!! The air con had been on all day and despite all our efforts, we couldn't get the room warmer (you could turn it off in theory but we don't know if it actually did!) Also, despite a very helpful concierge there were no leaflets or suggestions beyond one page in the booklet in the room, that suggested things to do, places to see.
The entrance lacked character and the halls were drab and in need of a face lift. I reckon it is a good place to lay your head and do some business but it wasn't exactly a romantic break or a cosy stay!!
I have stayed in many Hiltons and it looks like the Parmelia could use a bit of a renovation to pull it up to the standard of others. I recommend it....just.More
