Comfort Inn Wentworth Plaza

I must point out that I’m writing this review as an American on his first trip to Australia. The first thing I will mention is that I don’t think this hotel was worth the $140.00AUD per night I paid for my week’s visit at the end of November 2012 / beginning of December 2012. In the U.S., $140.00 a night will get you a lot more – depending on the city. I found the room to be both spartan and depressing. The furniture was pedestrian at best and there was no décor to speak of in the room. I could never get the temperature set properly; it was either too cold or too warm to be comfortable all the time. No instructions were provided with the television set to inform guests that you have to use the channel button to turn the appliance on instead of (logically) the power on button—and the maintenance man who was sent to my room to show me how to work the television remote was rude. ; furthermore, the laminated list of channels on the desk in the room does not correspond with the actual channel offerings by the network service provider; for someone who does not live in Australia, this was most frustrating. The Internet connection offered in the room (at a WHOPPING $14.00AUD for only 6 hours of service) was as slow as dial-up (if not slower) and all pages would fail to load properly; for the amount of money charged – which I was willing to pay – guests should be able to have flawless, unproblematic access to the Internet. The elevators weren’t working on the property when I was there; this was particularly annoying given that my room was on the top floor and at the very back of the premises. And, once, I inadvertently spilled my cereal and milk on my bed – yet the housekeeping staff failed to change the bedding – that was unacceptable and downright gross. The plusses? 1) This hotel is centrally located in downtown Perth; I liked being able to walk to everywhere I needed to get to while I was there; shopping and food outlets were plentiful in the immediate area; and 2) the front desk staff were very nice and helpful – at one point, the weather took a turn for the worse and they were kind enough to loan me an umbrella so that I didn’t have to purchase one to stay dry in the unexpected rain. Again, my expectations may well have been colored by American hotel standards that, overall, this property did not equal.

Stayed here for five days during AOG in February 2013. Have also stayed here before. Hotel is ok, rooms seems to be decent clean but it is very tired. Definetly time for refurbishment. Breakfast is really simple. If you only need a bed and don't spend time in the hotel except for sleeping it is ok, if you spend more time in the hotel you can find way better accommodation in Perth. Noisy aircon during night. One positive thing is location which is really good.

Reminded me of an old fashion hotel at the front desk then the room reminded me of a former life. The bathroom decoration was orange and brown tiles.... Nice!
People started coming in around 0230-0430 and that was the end of my nights sleep.
Internet $10 and very slow
That said cheap and cheerful, great location and clean and a single bed!

This was the cheaper place I could find in Perth. It was okay, but only okay. Traveling as a solo bloke on a business trip, the small room without ensuite was acceptable, but if I was here with someone els then I would have checked out and gone elsewhere. Did not find reception staff helpful, very suprisingly unwelcome for Australia. Wireless Internet is expensive and next to useless, think along the terms of old fashioned dial-up, it's that sort of speed and reliability and not practical for business use.

The whole place is very dated, but that said was clean and tidy. Good location, very easy access to the city centre, almost next door to underground, and train station just around the corner.

So the place is okay but just don't expect too much.

Yeah, ok. It's old. But that's it's charm. Very high ceilings, large rooms, central central central location. And a great price for the location. You are right in the heart of Perth. The staff are fabulous. I've stayed in European old hotels and this one is right up there with them. Very nice. If you want the Hilton experience, this isn't it. If you want a clean and old world charm experience, in a great central location at a very competitive rate. Then this is it.

Spent three nights there on an NZ/Australia vacation. Hotel prices in Perth are just crazy (had some problems in Sydney too despite booking a month ahead, but this it much worse), I did not have the money to spend 375 AUD or more per night for accomodation and this was the only alternative I could find bar backpackers.

Paid 130 AUD per night for a room without bathroom, old room but there is air conditioning, a ceiling fan, the bed/matress real good. NIce big screen TV.

Wi-Fi is available from the hotel for a price, but I could actually get free Perth City Wi-Fi, albeit slow and with a weak signal.

The male bathroom (card access) was just across the lobby from my room door, clean and all, no complaint.

Overall I was reasonably happy with this hotel, if Perth had "normal" prices, a room like this would be 80 AUD a night max, but as things are this was good damage limitation...

And yes, as others have mentioned, this hotel is VERY central.

The price is inviting compared to other hotels. Very clean basic hotel room. No en-suite though! Shared bathroom which was very clean but didn't feel as comfortable as expected after a long flight. Friendly staff, lovely busy bar/restaurant! Seems to be the busiest in the centre. Location is bang in the middle of the town!
