“Family rooms good for a city break”
Reviewed April 25, 2010

We have stayed in the Family Room twice, both times just for a one night "sleepover in the city". The room layout is excellent, with two single beds plus a double bed in a separate bedroom. It's by no means fancy, but there are two TVs and an indoor basement swimming pool which keeps everyone happy. The room was clean both times and the staff were friendly. The location is excellent for shopping, and a 10 minute walk took us to Northbridge for dinner.

Pros
* Could walk to shopping with teenage daughter while husband took the car for golfing.
* Family of four can share a two room / two TV accommodation
* Weekend price of $300/night for two rooms seems a good value
* The little bit of room service we had was good.
* Nice shower - separate shower stall, good water pressure, lots of hot water.
* Windows opened for fresh air.
* Great breakfast buffet (including fresh squeezed juices, omelette chef, espresso maker), but $25 seems too expensive

Cons
* Driving to and from hotel on our daily outings was very inconvenient due to illogical one way streets and lots of road construction
* Carpet looked dirty. Bathroom could use a deep cleaning.
* Concierge had no first hand knowledge of any activities we asked about. He 'googled' all our questions. We could have done that ourselves.
* Only a few dinner choices within walking distance
* Front of hotel almost always had busses or vans parked outside. The back looked into other hotel windows. Giving the overall feeling of the hotel as being cramped and squished.
* $25 a day for internet connection

When we first arrived at about 5:00 pm, we had the unusual experience that all the lunch spots were closed or closing, but the few dinner spots had not opened yet. Also, the shopping closes quite early every day except Friday. This is of course not the fault of the hotel, but because the close proximity to shopping was the best thing about this hotel, you should take into account the short hours of the surrounding shops, and if that works into your travel schedule.

I was quoted $220 per night for 3 nights. When I checked out I signed a bill that listed all the meals/mini bar & room cost. That had $220 listed as the room cost.
But they billed the credit card for $280 for 2 nights and $240 for 1 night. The copy I signed upon checking out disappeared off the face of the earth. I contacted the Interconternental head office in NSW and even they had on their records that the rate was $220 per night. Stiff biccies according to the holiday inn, they would not take any notice of their own head office and dis regarded this information as invalid. So they destroyed a document and FRAUDULANTLY billed a Government credit card. This was a corporate booking for a Government Department. I guess they saw it as open slather to charge what they feel. Dealing with the staff over the last week was fruitless as they had their mind set and they were rude and not going to budge. BUYER BE WARE, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD

This Hotel is bang in the middle of Perth. Helpful staff and very clean

Nice hotel with well equipped and pleasant rooms. Every effort was made to accommodate our needs but the downstairs lounge area was a little unwelcomming and dismal. Situated behind the 'off the street dining room' it did not seem to be part of the hotel. Food in the dining room was reasonably priced and good and the included breakfast was wonderful. Parking was pricey at $27 a day

We booked this Holiday Inn as my wife, a regular business traveller, had points for a free stay. But we would stay here even if we were paying for it ourselves.

This hotel is a cut above our experience of Holiday Inns in the UK. It is right in the centre of the Perth business district. Very close to shops. Just 15 minutes stroll from Northbridge eateries. 5 minutes stroll from bus and train station with easy access to other parts of Perth, particularly the beaches. 20 minutes stroll from Kings Park. Don't forget buses are free in the centre of Perth, so you don't have to walk if you don't want to.

Everything very comfortable and spacious in executive rooms. Free cabled internet - fast and reliable service. Don't know how good WIFI is as we didn't need to use it.

Very quiet rooms. No external noise to disturb us. Blackout curtains, the best ever. You wouldn't know how sunny it was outside - and it was. Good bathroom products. Mini-bar left empty for you to fill with your own drink/food. Hotel will fill with hotel drinks if you prefer. Nice to have the choice.

Strongly recommend.
