We dined here with a group a few months back and had a lovely meal, I wonder if it was more about the company and the wine back then though because last night two of us had just an 'OK' night there. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. The starters, mine Rabbit and his Trout, were quite tasty, but not amazing. The Duck main was presented like something a school dinner lady had slopped on a plate, the flavours were quite nice but the duck breast was not as 'spiced' as expected and it was a bit tough. Lemon tart was all heavy pastry and very little lemon filling and the brûlée, whilst flavoursome was more like a little cheesecake and not an actual brûlée as expected. Wont be rushing back.

This venue has a duel personality, a coffee shop during the day transforming into a high class dining room during the evening. Whether you want a coffee or a meal I have also found the staff to be attentive and efficient.

The even meal is excellent and the food well presented. A good choice of wines by the glass or a more extensive range by the bottle. We choose this restaurant on a friday night after work knowing that the ambience would allow conversations to flow rather than complete against excessive back ground music and other noises.

Try the tasting plate as an entree and the trio of lamb as a main - both are excellent.

We were invited to the quarter on Hay as part of a group. I checked out Trip Advisor before we went, so I was expecting not much food on the plate, slow service and a large bill. Well, we got that wrong! The "doof doof" music had disappeared, the friendly staff continually kept an eye on both wine and sparkling water glasses and the food; well that was amazing. As an example, our entree was seared scallops on a marscapone and chive risotto, served with truffle caviar. How on earth do you make truffle caviar? For a main, there was roast venison on braised red cabbage, with a foie gras and truffle sauce. September is definitely the truffle season in Perth. I'd definitely go back.Yes it's an expensive restaurant, but for the quality, it's well worth it.

Trip 1: Visited the restaurant for lunch with my partner. We sat outside and ordered a charcuterie plate to share and main course each. We were given a tasting plate instead, however, they realised their mistake and let us keep it as well as bringing out the charcuterie plate. The dishes on the tasting plate were very average. The charcuterie plate was good, however, dozens of fruit flies were flying around and landing on our food so we moved inside.

Our mains were delivered, yet the fruit flies still remained. The two main courses were excellent but it is a little bit distracting trying to defend your food from bugs!

We paid the bill and the waiter made sleezy comments to my partner... Not a fine example of customer service.

Trip 2: With a friend for lunch. Service was improved, the girl was very nice. Entrees were very good and mains were average. One of the mains was the pork belly, which came with a very generous serving of pork and apple sauce side, and that was it. It became quite sickening to eat that dish without any accompaniments, the waitress should have definitely recommended a side dish. The fruit flies were still there...

Prices are pretty good and portion sizes are spot on. Food quality is variable and service overall was quite poor. Give this place a miss, many good bistros in Perth have emerged recently

2nd visit to this restuarant for dinner. First time very pleased, this time a bit dissapointing. Menu seems to have shrunk in the mains, I guess a lot of CBD restuarants are so quiet on a Saturday night they have to limit the choices. Doof doof music annoying, and as with a lot of places, you get to sit on top of other guests when a large part of the restuarant is still empty.
