“Great base in Perth”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

We stayed here twice in June on our way to and from Exmouth. Rose and Michael could not have been more helpful, and we followed their advice on how to spend the short time we had in the city. As first timers in Australia we were delighted to be able to walk just down the road and stroke kangaroos! Very exciting for us. It is a very quiet area, but there are several good restuarants nearby which cater for vegetarians and it is very convenient to use the free buses in and out of the city centre. The local restuarants are situated by the water and its very pretty at night. Both rooms we had were excellent with everything provided. The penthouse is ridiculously huge, but a bit chilly in winter! The smaller room was fine, and both rooms had balconies. Yes - there are a lot of stairs if you have mobility problems, but Michael kindly helped us up and down the stairs with our heavy bags. Breakast is great - anything you want really. Do visit the roos, and the boat trip to Freemantle was great too. William Street in the city has some excellent asian restuarants - we found one of the best Indian restuarants we've ever been to! Maya Masala. Perth, and Australia in general, is expensive for us Brits, but this is much nicer than staying in a hotel and worth every penny.

We stayed in the city last time we visited Perth, but this area is far better. It's much quieter, but with the free City Cat bus close by, is just as convenient. There are several decent restaurants within a few minutes' walk, and an excellent pizza takeaway just round the corner (forget the name, but NOT Domino's!). You definitely don't need a car.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Rose and Michael are extremely welcoming and a mine of useful information; breakfasts are excellent; our bed was the most comfortable we slept in during the whole of our 6 weeks away from home (the pillows were great too, which isn't always the case); bath towels were huge (though the smaller ones were just too small to wrap round wet hair); and there's an honesty bar in the main room.

As someone said, this is not the place for anyone with mobility problems as there are quite a few stairs, they're quite steep and there's no lift. We stayed in the room on the main level, which is fairly small, but Rose & Michael are happy for you to use their sitting room and balcony, and will lend you cutlery and crockery if you need it. The bathroom just has a shower (which we prefer anyway), so no difficulties with a bath.

It's not a cheap option - but then nowhere in Perth is - but it's way better than staying in an impersonal hotel.

Would we stay again - absolutely!

My husband and I spent three nights with Rose and Michael in April and found the experience wonderful. Our room had a lovely balcony, where we were able to sit and relax after walking all over Perth. The room was great and breakfast perfect. The amenities in the bathroom are first class and the towels large and fluffy. I agree with another review about the bath/shower - the sides are high and use care when getting out. Rose accommodated all requests at breakfast and Michael makes a good cup of coffee! The location is perfect; you are out of the hustle and bustle of the city, but a very short walk to the CAT, free bus service around Perth. Rose makes you feel like a long time friend and we enjoyed talking with her and even getting to play with her grandson. Consider yourself lucky if you can stay here. It was truly a great find.

We stayed with Rose and Michael for 3 days and were delighted with their place. We were on the top floor that I can recommend as it has the best views and a SPA bath.
The location id great for those without a car its less than 2 minutes walk to the free bus service and 5 minutes to a huge range of restaurants / bars.
The room was spotless and the hosts great, Rose can cook a very good breakfast.
There are only 2 things to watch, the place has quite steep steps in the staircase and the bath was difficult to enter as it was very high at the sides. So its not suitable for people with mobility issues.
I can highly recommend this B&B

Very enjoyable one night stay.Spotlessly clean -stayed in the Italian room which has a small balcony.
Easy 15-20min walk into centre of Perth and the same to catch the ferry to Freemantle. A number of good eating places very close by.
A good inner city stay. Book as early as you can as it is popular with regulars.

We have just returned from a fantastic touring holiday in Australia which ended in us staying for the last week at La Casa Rosa, owned and operated by two fantastic hosts, Rose and Michael. We could not have been more delighted with our accommodation, its locality and our forever attentive and welcoming hosts - they were definitely "the icing on the cake" of making our visit to Perth a memorable one. The main reason for visiting Perth was to meet up with our son who was living nearby to La Casa Rosa and on the evening of our arrival, Rose and Michael were very hospitable in allowing our son to be present beforehand, and ready to welcome us upon our arrival from the airport. We were instantly made to feel at home and after being shown to the penthouse, we were given refreshments whilst we sat out on the balcony, catching up on some family time.

Our room was very comfortable with good facilities, including a mini fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. My husband and I enjoy a hearty "full English breakfast" and this is what we savoured most days. Rose's breakfast menus offer everything from fresh fruit, juice, various cereals with yoghurt, followed by eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes and hashbrowns, and all selected and deliciously cooked to order as guests wish. If that was not enough, Rose then presented us with either freshly baked apple/raspberry muffins or her signature baked scones, served up with scrumptious cream and jam and all washed down with tea or coffee. That did set us up for the day as we went out to explore Perth's own delights. An odd evening when we did not go out, Rose and Michael were kind in offering us to join them on their balcony, whilst we refreshed ourselves with a chilled drink or two.

As the previous reviews reported, Rose and Michael have a wealth of information and suggestions on what to see in Perth, how to get there, when it is best to go to various attractions as well as the surrounding areas of Perth. It was good to know that if you wanted to check out anything, Rose and Michael were always keen to help as they wanted us to make the most of our visit. Nothing was too much trouble.

We do hope to return to Perth at some time in the next year or so, and high on our list will be to book our accommodation at La Casa Rosa, hoping that we will be successful in doing so, as it is well sought after by other visitors from the UK as well as in Australia. Definintely book early to avoid disappointment. So if you are wanting to visit Perth (east Perth), this is the place you want to be. It is central for the free CAT bus system, which takes you into the city centre, the local shops, a variety of eateries, as well as the gorgeous Queens Park and Claisebrook Cove - all within easy walking distance.

We can't wait to visit Perth again, but more so, to stay at the very best accommodation in town - La Casa Rosa. Thanks again Rose and Michael for everything. :-) (Jen and Bob)

Exceeded our high expectations. Very convenient location, quiet yet short distance to restaurants, and walking distance to CBD, though there is a convenient regular free bus operating. Very comfortable room with large flower bedecked balcony. Rose and Michael are wonderful friendly hosts with lots of helpful suggestions, and going out of their way to help make our Perth stay relaxing, memorable and enjoyable. An excellent breakfast which Rose cooks to order. We would strongly recommend this high quality B & B.
