Owner description: Perth's favourite playground, the Swan River is a stunning waterway which winds its way from the Darling Scarp to Fremantle. This natural attraction is popular location for Perth locals and visitors to enjoy a day out boating, fishing, skiing, paddling, swimming, picnicking or simply enjoying its vista.Rich in environmental and cultural values, the Swan River was named Derbal Yerrigan by the local Aboriginals who believe that the river was created by the rainbow serpent ‘Waugal’, a dreamtime spirit taking the form of a giant snake. It is believed that the Waugal created creeks, waterholes, lakes and valleys on its journey to the ocean.

We always enjoy the Swan River. There are lovely walks along it's banks, where dolphins, snake birds, cormorants and cootes can be seen. Nice cafes on the wharf to enjoy a meal with a view. The ferry ride to Fremantle is always enjoyable. The all day Swan River Wine Cruise takes in lovely views on the upper reaches of the river.

The ferry to Freemantle is a perfect way to get to see the river properly, with its hugely expensive mansions and hundreds of yachts. This is a trip well worth taking, and personally liked Freemantle better than Perth city as it's more funky!

My wife and I took a short ferry ride from Barrack Jetty. The view of the city from the other side was lovely. Looking at the city and the river was just very calming, a must do in Perth.

Enjoy a cruise up the river, or take the ferry to the other side, or even enjoy cycling along the river, the Swan River can over this and more. The crystal blue water changes color as the skies do, blue in the morning, grey as it rains and red as the sun sets.

Swan river is lovely. We took a dinner cruise which lasted 3 hours, so after eating head outside on the deck and enjoy sunset and the evening lights and sounds of Perth.
