Owner description: Perth's favourite playground, the Swan River is a stunning waterway which winds its way from the Darling Scarp to Fremantle. This natural attraction is popular location for Perth locals and visitors to enjoy a day out boating, fishing, skiing, paddling, swimming, picnicking or simply enjoying its vista.Rich in environmental and cultural values, the Swan River was named Derbal Yerrigan by the local Aboriginals who believe that the river was created by the rainbow serpent ‘Waugal’, a dreamtime spirit taking the form of a giant snake. It is believed that the Waugal created creeks, waterholes, lakes and valleys on its journey to the ocean.

Extensive biking/walking trails. Rented a bike and rode all over Perth. Great views along the river. It can get very windy at times. Not many riverside restaurants.

Shouldn't take this river for granted mind you. It's a wonderful spot for cruising, fishing, swimming, from most access points. As far as rivers go, this one rocks.

We took an afternoon cruise up the Swan River to Freemantle. Great experience and a lovely way to see Perth. Definately a must do if it is your first time to the city.

Last nights I spent a wonderful dinner evening with friend that had parked their Camper Bus along side of the Swan River. It was a awsome evening with a light breeze keeping us cool. People fishing and walking along the rivers edge. Enjoying the lights of the city. With lots of boaties sailing past. Even the Dophins were enjoying themselves. Simple evening very much enjoyed with the special company.

What a beautiful river and beautiful scenery!

We travelled on one of the ferries to Rottnest Island meandering down the Swan River from Barrack St pier. The scenery on either side is wonderful with so many places on the shoreline that beckon you to stop and just relax.

On the day we sailed down the river the were lots of families just enjoying the riverside, and it looked wonderful. The river is big enough to allow for sailboats, wind surfers, kite sailing etc.

Some of the suburbs that line the river also have spectacular homes to look at.

All-in-all a beautiful, clean and inviting river.
