Owner description: Perth's favourite playground, the Swan River is a stunning waterway which winds its way from the Darling Scarp to Fremantle. This natural attraction is popular location for Perth locals and visitors to enjoy a day out boating, fishing, skiing, paddling, swimming, picnicking or simply enjoying its vista.Rich in environmental and cultural values, the Swan River was named Derbal Yerrigan by the local Aboriginals who believe that the river was created by the rainbow serpent ‘Waugal’, a dreamtime spirit taking the form of a giant snake. It is believed that the Waugal created creeks, waterholes, lakes and valleys on its journey to the ocean.

“Best city river in Australia”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

The Swan River defines Perth, it is wide and wonderful and makes Perth almost like Sydney harbour in the vistas it creates,
Best viewpoints: Riverside Drive at the CBD, Kings Park just to the west of the CBD, the BlueWater Grill restaurant in Attadale, the Matilda Bay restaurant or Jo Jos In Nedlands, anything on the river from there to Fremantle.
Best visitor things: Surf cat hire from South Perth foreshore, parasailing from Crawley, Windsurfing lessons from Nedlands, Sailing from Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, coffee in East Freo, Drinks at the Left Bank, East Fremantle. Picnics at Point Walter, East Fremantle.

“Beautiful River”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

A great way to see Perth by taking a Captain Cook boat trip from Fremantle or from the Barrack Square Pier. Sailing on The Swan River at sunset around Freshwater Bay and Mosman Bay is a wonderful way to spend an early evening.

“Peaceful and beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2012

Peaceful if you want it to be at the upper reaches or noisy & fun at ski area, or busy in the ferry areas. Somewhere for everyone on the river (boaties) or many riverside walk and bike paths which offer contrasts in scenery

“Scenic and fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2012

You can find a spot on the Swan River to do whatever activity you are seeking. Sailing, picnicking, jet-skiing/waterskiing, cafe, restaurant, pubs, fishing...even just a walk/run/bikeride. We love it...spend alot of time at the river with the kids or running/bikeriding.
