“Good Value in Broome”
Reviewed July 14, 2010

We stayed here over three nights in early July. Located about 2.5km from Cable Beach and the town centre, and walking distance to a large shopping centre. The property is a good average motel style accomodation which included a kitchenette and full-sizes fridge. We were upgraded on arrival into a king bed suite at the front of the property. Our room was spacious and the bed comfortable, the bathroom adequate, the water saver shower was just OK. The staff were helpful, friendly and very informative about the local area. We were given maps and a bus timetable for the service which had a stop just outside the Lodge. Food for your kitchen is available at reception, but cheaper at the nearby supermarket. Fast and reasonably priced wi-fi is available in room. Our only gripe was the strong smell of disinfectant in the room, which was a little overpowering. The room had french doors onto a small balconey and was easily aired, and we opted not to have the room serviced during our stay. I think management should look at this though. Overall we were very pleased with our choice.

Brad and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Stayed here twice (had four rooms with friends) and the rooms were spotlessly clean. We were upgraded on our first visit which was lovely and found the standard rooms on our second visit to be as comfortable. Good value for Broome which is pretty expensive on the whole. Well equipped kitchens in each room. Internet access available, laundry and clothes line. Swimming pool great. Would stay again.

Ocean Lodge may be a 3 star motel but the staff are definately 5 star.
Julie the manager was a delight. She was extremely helpful and went out of her way to make our stay a good one. Abby on reception was friendly and polite and lovely to talk to.
We stayed at Ocean lodge for 3 nights, one night before our tour and two nights when we returned. Our studio room on the first night was on the first floor with the balcony overlooking the pool and tropical garden. The studio itself was large and comfortable with nice decore, the bathroom was a bit outdated ( it is an older motel ) but it was clean and fresh.
On our return we were given a newley refurbished studio on the ground floor with french doors that opened onto manicured lawns. The studio was as nice as rooms that we have had in much more expensive accommodation.
The motel does not have a restaurant or breakfast room but at reception there is a small store that has everything from breakfast essentials to snacks and frozen dinners. All the studios contain a fully equiped kitchen, so self catering is easy.
For me the small family feel about the motel is much nicer than the overcrowded resorts and as accommodation in Broome is expensive the Ocean Lodge is very good value for money.
We would definately stay there again.

The Ocean Lodge management is the friendliest and most helpful I have come across in a long time. They went out of their way to make our stay most pleasant. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a small kitchen. The location is convient both to town and to Cable Beach as the local bus stops just out in front. There is a pool and spa and they have laundry facilities on the premises. I would definitely stay there again.

Sitting in this motel right now and i am guessing that it must have originally been built in the 80s. It certainly shows in the bathrooms and interior decor of the rooms.

First impressions when i walked into the door was that housekeeping did not know how to use disinfectant. Not because the place looked dirty but because the rooms smelled of disinfectant inside and out and i could still feel it on the floors 6 hours on when i went to bed.

In bed, the smell is still here. I have also managed to kill no less than 5 mosquitos in the room and kitchen.

I booked this accomodation via Wotif Mystery and paid approx $135 for the night but i would not book this again or recommend to any friends. I would have been happier in my tent at a caravan park. Perhaps i got the cheap rate which is why i got a crappy room as other reviews on this site do not seem to mirror my findings?

I stayed at Ocean Lodge with a friend for 5 nights and then 1 night at the completion of a package tour. The hotel was clean, comfortable, had cooking facilities but certainly not five star. Very close to a shopping centre - walking distance and a bus stop right outside the door to go to Cable Beach or into town. We were able to leave our big suitcases whilst on tour (and take a smaller bag) and collect on our return. What made our stay so special was the staff - Brad and Melissa were so helpful and went out of our way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. If you are looking for a reasonable price (not quite possible in Broome) without all the bells and whistles this is the place for you.

I have just returned from a weeks stay in Broome. Fantastic experience - What an interesting place. I recommed the $99 Scenic Flight over the area as well as the Town Tour which puts everything into perspective. I enjoyed the Pearl Lugger sunset cruise - just magnificent to watch from the water overlooking Town Beach. Lots of shops to explore and very easy to drift into Broome Time.
Our accommodation at Ocean Lodge was budget but all we needed as we only slept there and had a quick breakfast and spent the day exploring the area. The rooms are adequete and the grounds/pool are quite lovely. The staff are great especially Melissa and Brad the Managers. Couldn't do enough for us. I thoroughly recommend Broome and the Ocean Lodge Motel to everyone.
