“Not as good as The Old Zoo”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

We went to The Old Zoo cafe a few years back and had some of our best food there. So we came here again thinking it should be much the same, even in a new bigger location.

Oh how we were wrong! It has turned into more pub style food with super slow service. The food not bad but definately not memorable like before. And it took us well over 1 hr to get mains after entree.

So sad to see how it is now, i think they have just tried to do go too big and can not cope. Just expect a good pub style meal and you should be happy.

“The Zebar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

This was the old Zoo Café, now in a new position (50m) from the old place and with a new name - The Zebar. Staff are welcoming and friendly (most hospitality staff are backpackers so you meet some interesting characters from many countries) and the menu quite varied. We chose Tapas at half price Mad Monday on our first visit and dined more formally on other occasions. We liked the fact that we were 2 minutes walk from the place and so getting home was never a problem after a few drinks. Live entertainment was a regular feature here and there always seemed to be something happening on most nights.

“Zee Bar? Zoo Bar? ..... bit confused”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

We stayed at the nearby Pinctada Hotel near Cable Beach, restaurants are limited out there, so we decided to try the Zee bar or is it the Zoo bar?, we'd heard good things about it, the first time we tried, we couldn't get in, as it was so busy, surely a good sign.
The second time we went, we got a table and ordered some lunch. I had the steak sandwich which was a big mistake, it arrived after a 20 minute wait, it was thing, barely cooked and grisly, the chips where good though.
The wine and beer where good prices, my partners food was OK, just mine was awful. It took ages to pay the bill as we went to the cash register and waited, no one seemed to keen to take our money.
If this place was in a city, it would close tomorrow, its only because options are limited in Broome that it's getting by, maybe if they had more local staff instead of backpackers??

“Poor experience”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

Arrived at 5.30 to an empty restaurant and was rudely asked "have you booked." Took us to a table with wet chairs from the recent downpour. Took our order and kids were served their meals AND dessert before we got our mains. Waited over an hour for our meals and when arrived, mine was cold. Staff didn't seem to care and we asked for our mains twice.

“Greed Spoils What Potentially Could Be A Nice Establishment”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

I would like to be able to write a review commenting on the food I enjoyed, however we never quite got to that stage. Checking out the place earlier in the day for a meal there that night we ordered two coffees. $10.20. That's not a typing error, $10.20 for two coffees, which as it happens were so hot they were not very nice in any event. As was said in the movie "The Castle", tell them their dreaming." The coffees were $4.50 each but extra had to be paid because one of them was topped up with a bit of extra milk. Well, you only get caught once and as a result we never returned for a meal. Absolute greed ultimately cost this restaurant better profits, in as much that we did not eat there. You can find better value elsewhere in Broome.
