We have just celebrated my husbands' 50th with friends in Broome. After consulting locals, our travel agent and of course- Tripadvisor :)- Cable Beach Resort came up as the best option. As far as position goes- the main bar and Sea-facing Restaurant are great. The sunsets are quite spectacular and we were also able to enjoy them from the balcony of our Ocean Facing room. Sadly our friends all had 'garden facing rooms'- less expensive but some were VERY dark and depressing. The beach is huge so long walks are a must and the flat rocks great to sit on and have a sundowner while the camels plod past.
We had our celebratory dinner in the formal restaurant (sorry names escape me!). The decor of the restaurant is sumptuous, with elegant table settings and excellent food - the menu is not huge but the food was beautifully cooked and presented and the service was subtle but efficiant- worth every cent.
The staff at reception were also efficiant and friendly- as was the concierge. The gardens were immaculate and beautiful.
BUT... The service in other parts of the resort was hopeless. It took the sunset bar nearly 45mins to get our drinks to us (the place was almost empty when we ordered), the attentant on the till appeared never to have used such a piece of complicated equipment in her life (no manager in sight!). Housekeeping did not think it important to clean some rooms before lunchtime- while some of the rooms were done in the early morning, one was done at 4.00pm (after a reminder at 1.00). I mean who would think that guests may wish to lie down after lunch?? There is a surcharge on Sundays- but some of the facilities are then closed on Mondays and Tuesdays!!!!
The adult pool was terrific- could do with more shade but it was strictly adults only, so quiet and peaceful and the rooms around the pool looked nice as well.
Cable Beach is a while out of town so a car is helpful. We loved the brewery- Matzos; The Willy Creek Pearl Farm was quite interesting and we all enjoyed the drive out there. Our friends did the scenic flight- again the views were amasing but the level of 'tourist competancy' of the pilot was dire- he was unprepared for the booking, headsets were not checked prior to arrival so two did not work, the promised Horizontal Falls was suddenly "'wrong for this time of year"- All in all this was not a good advertisement to our overseas visitors!
On the whole we probably would go back to the resort but primarily because of it's position. (Oh and lest I forget- the pillows are awful!)

For $380 a night I stayed 11 nights, after one night dining at the Sunset bar where the service was nothing short of appalling I hired a car and dined in town.
Bad , bad service, the management didn't care. Just a complete rip off.

Oh and when I complained via email after returning home, I got a defensive email back from the General Manager!

By reading these reviews everything mentioned is what happened to me, dirty rooms, poor service, dirty pool, undermanned counters, poor quality of food and over priced.

Spare yourself the waste of money.

I stayed here with my wife for a long weekend and in my opinion Cable Beach Club is still the ONLY place in Broome to stay. It is the only resort that has full food and beverage services around both pool areas, a choice of restaurants and cafes and a room service menu. If you don't want to lift a finger during your holiday then this is the place to stay! It's location (the only resort actually on cable beach itself) is also second to none and you simply can't beat sitting in the sunset bar every night watching the sun go down. Oh and the breakfast buffet each morning was impressive too ....

20 years after our first stay at Cable Beach, we re visited this Broome icon....and generally we were not disappointed. The location right at the beach was great. The restaurants and quality of food was excellent. Some parts of the resort may show a little bit of age, but we feel that this is still THE place to stay.

My husband and I went to Cable Beach Resort as part of our wedding anniversary and we had a fantastic time. The room was very comfortable with a huge king size bed with double doors opening out to our own private veranda and banana lounges with only approx one metre to the adult pool (we stayed in a Pool Terrace view studio) no kids are allowed to stay in any of the rooms surrounding this pool so anyone wanting to get away from kids should make sure they book this room. Check in was fast and friendly, we arrived at 10:00am and they allowed us to check in straight away as the official checkin time is 3:00 so I was pleasantly surprised. The gardens were lovely providing a Balinese feel to the resort. We didn't eat at the resort as the prices were over the top so we went to the old zoo cafe which we highly recommend as well as the Zeebar where the cocktails were fantastic and the staff were really friendly. What ever you do don't go to Zanders which is located on Cable Beech itself; the service was the worst we have experienced as they don't have a system in place - god help them when peak season arrives!
For us, as this was our first trip to Broome, The Cable Beech Resort was a great place to stay as it was easy for us to get around as the local bus stop was just across the road from the resort and the resort has its own shuttle bus (you need to book to get a seat) which is free. If you are visiting Broome for the first time just remember it is a country outback town so if you are expecting lots of action - forget it but there is plenty to do outside the main town.
Our check out went well and the driver of our shuttle bus kindly dropped us outside Matso's brewery (another spot to visit - fantastic food, staff and beer!!).
