“So good we nearly missed our flight!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

We had a very late lunch at The Zoo,or is it Zee bar (?)on our last day of our annual family holiday to Broome. We knew we would be pushing our luck when we arrived at nearly 4pm to ask for lunch but we were so pleasantly surprised when the supervisor charley greeted us and told us that this would be no problem. We were taken to a great table on the deck which overlooked a fabulous boad tree. Charley took care of our thirst first and helped us choose a bottle of wine from the wine list - which was great by the way... And then sorted out our husbands with the beer menu.... Again which was great according to the men. After asking every question possible regarding the food options we put our trust in charley and opted for a "Kimberley taste plate" along with some grilled prawns which was made available to us from their bar menu. For our mains we had a Thai beef salad, fresh barramundi, coconut poached snapper, smoked chicken focaccia and a chicken CEASAR salad - all of which was wonderful. Everyone was so please with the food, not one of us had a single complaint and we are usually a tough bunch to please. Aside from the food the best part about our lunch was that we were made to feel so welcome, and the service was first class without being intrusive which can be hard to pull off. We called charley over after our lunch and asked if we could buy a beer for the chef as we were very thankful that he stayed and cooked for us so late in the arvo. Two minutes later Charley had the chef at our table which was fantastic. We talked to him about our dishes and managed to get some great cooking tips. So after a few hours of great food and wine it suddenly dawned on us that we had slipped into "Broome Time" mode again and that we were about to miss our flight - charley to the rescue, she realised that we were in a bit of a frantic hurry and when she asked why, we told her that we had less than 45 minutes to get back to our hotel to get our luggage and then go to the airport. We paid our bill and within that time she had booked a taxi to pick us up from our hotel and take us to the airport and then if that wasn't enough she grabbed her car keys and said she would take us back to the our hotel so we didn't have to walk (run). We were quite overwhelmed by our whole experience from start to finish, we had a great lunch and it was the perfect ending to a great holiday - Thank you Zoo/Zee bar

“Average Food Bad Service”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Very excited about our booking to go to Zoo Café for dinner ,the restaurant lacked atmosphere. Ordered drinks and food .I ordered fish of the day my husband ordered steak. After 45 mins the food arrived to the table my fish was a cold dish which was meant to be hot . Nothing worse than cold fish, I told the waitress, who offered to heat it for me. I was not impressed as the fish dish was over $30.00. My husband ate his average steak. and we left. The manageress apologised, blamed someone in the kitchen but still charged us full rate for the steak and drinks. I would not recommend Zoo Café.

Nice location. Food was ok. Nothing special. No lunch-time vegetarian options. Friendly staff. A bit pricey.

The variety of food was excellent. Being vegetarian the dishes were tasty and interesting. However the cafe was very noisy.

Handy to our accommodation & Cable Beach with varied and tasty cuisine. Service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was pleasant & easy-going. Most enjoyable, though not particularly cheap.
