“Flash packers maybe but how much rest you get depends on your neighbors habits”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2012

Beaches of Broome was nice. It is well located and has all the facilities any back packer could want, good laundry, kitchen, pool and community area. However the en suite rooms (I stayed in 2 rooms over 3 nights) I found to be noisy at night. I had 1 quite night out of 3 and all 3 were mid week. You can hear the person in the next room cough or talk if it is louder than a whisper. I know my 20 year old would think this was heaven being close to the beach and the bars but not so for me

On the positive the staff were really friendly and helpful and the pool was spotlessly clean as was the shared kitchen area. They offered great specials on tours and a $10 BBQ night that was tasty. The beds were very firm but comfortable and the bathroom was tastefully presented.
.

Room Tip: specify on booking if you are a light sleeper, that you want a quiet room

Beaches of Broome is a fabulous location for travellers stopping through Broome. The ensuite rooms are very comfortable with air conditioning and enough space to spread out.

The cooking facilities are vast and the onsite bar and pool is a great place to hang out in the evening or share a breakfast with a stranger in the morning.

Lots of local bars and restaurants close by.

Super friendly staff. Cannot fault.

Room Tip: Haven't seen the dorm rooms but if you want a bit of privacy the ensuite rooms are fab.

We stayed at this place given its location to Cable Beach (very close). This was a long-awaited holiday for my wife and I which was somewhat spoilt by staying here. To be fair, if you are a 20 or 30-something looking for backpacker accomodation then I would imagine that this would pass muster very well, but as a 60's couple looking for somewhere more comfortable to stay, then Beaches of Broome disappointed us. Their advertising does describe the location as "budget" but they also use the words "resort" and "hotel" in the same sentence. We found it to be somewhat misleading.

The double rooms with ensuite are very small indeed and very basic. The ensuite is virtually part of the room hidden behind sliding doors. In our room the air conditioner didn't work but was fixed the following day. You are supplied with plastic bowls, plates and cups as well as cutlery which you are expected to carry to and from your room. I cannot recall any other hotel/resort, budget or otherwise, where I had to go to reception and ask for more toilet paper and then carry it back to the room, but I did here. At $180/night, we thought these rooms represented poor value for money. The included "continental breakfast" was in the communal kitchen and consisted of some cereals and breads which were just bog-standard sliced from the supermarket. There were containers of margarine and some jams open with plastic knives stuck in them which had obviously been used for a taste of everything on the bench. The bar food is essentially stuff taken out of the freezer and deep-fried. The quality was poor and the portions small. Overall, go elsewhere to eat. Drinks are cheap though.

The rate included airport transfers but be careful. They will pick you up from the airport but there is no transfer back - you have to find/pay for your own way. The establishment is very backpacker focused. Around the bar/reception area the TV blasts out the MTV channel - not our choice of music at all. Staff are keen to help but not always knowledgeable. We tried to hire a scooter but were told none were available until 10am the following day. There were scooters parked there which never seemed to move during our entire stay. We were directed by one of the reception staff to an adjacent hotel where scooters would be available for hire. After walking there we were told that the hotel had changed hands several months ago and they no longer rented scooters. In the end, we rented in town.

In summary, Beaches is a backpacker place beginning and end. It is not a hotel/resort and should not pretend to be so. If we were to return to Broome we would find somewhere not necessarily so close to Cable Beach and use the scooter for transport.

Great amenities, clean, friendly helpful staff and awesome location. Perfect backpackers.
However i made the mistake of staying here with the family as it was recommended by a friend. The walls of the rooms are wafer thin, the beds are rock hard and if your over 6ft your feet will stick over the end of the bed. I'd definitely stay here again on a boys trip but not with the family!

After a bit of research on the net we chose “Beaches” for our stay in Broome and couldn’t be happier with the result.

Just a short walk from Cable beach, this modern, well set up and maintained establishment had everything we wanted. We chose a Double ensuite Room (which would do any hotel proud) although there is a selection of very clean and well kept options from Dorms up. There is a great swimming pool, an exceedingly well set up kitchen for guests use and a bar with the cheapest beer in Broome. The general atmosphere here is very chilled and relaxed.

Included breakfast (Tea / Coffee, cereal, toast with a selection of marmalade, jams etc.) is an adequate serve yourself affair from the kitchen and you can cook your own eggs etc. if you feel the need to supplement it. As food in Broome is not cheap, cooking the occasional meal in the kitchen is a great way to extend the budget and meet a few people.

The location of “Beaches” is great, with a (twice hourly) bus service into Broome central stopping 100 metres down the road, Divers Tavern a few minutes walk away and the fantastic Cable beach (have a drink at the Sunset Bar) just a few minutes walk away.

The staff at “Beaches” are great and the service, friendliness and smiles from Danika (great knowledge on all things Broome), Jemma and Lauren at reception make you feel really at home.

All in all, probably the best “Backpacker” we have stayed in. The laid back style of the staff and the chilled clientele helped make our stay a memorable one.

Very good stay with friendly and very helpful staff. Good pool for cooling down. Well maintained toilets and showers. Receptionists Daneka and Jemma were great when we had a problem with our keys (thanks again girls). Just what we needed to have as a base for exploring lovely old Broome and all at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Find the shade!

Overall the backpackers was good value. The resort was a nice modern design with a great pool. It was also about a ten minute walk to Cable Beach. The breakfast was very basic, just bread with spreads (all melted as the kitchen is stinking hot), some cereal, tea and coffee. On a couple of days there were some apples. The blonde receptionist was ABSOLUTELY USELESS and provided so much misinformation, it became a joke. Firstly, she didn't give us a run down on how anything works (kitchen/facilities, deposits etc) and so we had to just figure things out as they came up. She had "no idea" if there was an surchage for paying by credit card. When asked where the nearest shop was to buy bread/milk, she directed us to what turns out to be the Convenience store next to Divers Tavern (about 15 min walk away). When we turned the corner of Beaches, there was a little deli right next door! Failed to mention that. She then told me not to worry about booking a scooter as there would be plenty available. Next day they were all booked out. She told us one was due in at 10am, so to hang around a while and it will be back. She even called the person and checked their room. After looking at the whiteboard where return times are marked, we noticed it was 10 PM. We checked with her and sure enough "whoops" yes it was 10pm! We would've been waiting a while... she did a few other stupid things and I overhead her apologising to other people for stuffing things up. On the plus side, when we returned our crockery set she gave us $20 back each instead of the $10 we had paid each haha!! For the rooms - we had a 3 bed triple share female dorm. Aircon only on 8pm - 8am. I found this point misleading as this information wasn't easy to find on their website. Room was so hot during the day you couldn't be in it (fans only). At night it was FREEZING and by 3am I had to pull on all my clothes and lay towel over me (no blankets at the resort at all). Fairly quiet expect for our last night (Sat) where people were shouting and slamming doors until 3am. I don't know if there was a noise curfew but if there was, there doesn't seem to be anyone on site to enforce it (reception leave at 10pm).

So overall, a good resort if on a budget (I was paying $35 a night) however my experience was ruined by the terrible staff.

Room Tip: I recommend getting a private room (shared facilities are fine) so that you have aircon all day!
