“Worth a look”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2011

We really enjoyed our visit to Lesueur National Park although it was a little tricky to find. One of the roads leading to the National Park Scenic drive is unsealed (Cockleshell Gully Road).

The Scenic Drive is lovely. When you enter there is a small info post and a couple of info boards. Pick up an info guide and register your entry to the park ($11 cash, no change given).

We took the scenic drive and stopped in at the 'day use area' where you can take two walk trails. If memory serves me correctly the walk trail to the peak of Mount Lesueur is 4 km and the walk trail for Gardner walk is 2.5km. Make sure you bring adequate water as there is none available in this National Park.

We chose to do the walk to Mount Lesueur. It looks further and harder than it actually was. The walk included info boards posted throughout detailing the local flora and fauna. The view from the peak is vast and varied.

We saw a roo during this treck (photo included with this review) and two wedge tail eagles near the peak of Mt Lesueur. Lots of wildflowers, birds, bugs and beetles (and flies - bring appropriate head wear to keep them away from your face, ears, nose & mouth).

We ran out of time as the sun was setting but we would have liked to do the Gardiner walk and also check out cockleshell gully.

Overall, if you dont mind that the scenic drive is a bit out of the way (entry to the park is only pointed out with small road signs) then I think it is worth visiting.

Please be careful of wildlife driving through the national park. We had two near misses with kangaroos, seems they are curious of the car and come quite close!
