Great atmos, and some of the dishes were great, but the others not so. Avoid the Sui Mai, couldn't taste a prawn nor chive. Got all our main dishes before our entrees. Several different waitresses. Sizzling beef didn't come. 10 minutes after we reminded one of our waitresses of its absence, she arrived with a plate which she announced was 'sizzling beef, without the sizzle'.. No explanation for the lack of expected fanfare, this dish was the mist disappointing. At $20, the theatre came from actually finding the beef on the plate amongst the onions and cold sauce. The Mu Chu was a cracking starter though, full of taste. As was the Pork Belly, although the portion size was doll-like. Eggplant in claypot main was delicious, but needed a bit moe eggplant, and the fried rice was some of the best we've had. Mixed bag really. Worth a trip, but worth reading the reviews of others to know what yo expect and avoid.

Loved this place. A tongue in cheek Chinese with some great food.
Try the fried rice , vegetables and the deep fried lettuce. Yum
Service was excellent , staff incredibly friendly and all called Nigel regardless of sex.
We loved that we got our mains before the entrées and also the atmosphere was great.
Try it . You wont regret it

The experience at "Happy Palace" was terrible as soon as we walked in.
Firstly, they booked our table for 7 on the wrong night, told a table would be ready in 5 minutes... 20 minutes later we were squeezed into a booth and proceeded to sit for another 30 minutes before we were even acknowledged to take food orders. When the food arrived, it looked like it had been cooked by a five year old. The portion sizes were ludicrous for "main" meals along with the prices for the rubbish that was served. Order the beef and broccoli, you will get a plate of gravy with 3 broccoli flowerettes and a few pieces of beef that resembles a gumboot. 3 people were left waiting for their meals 20 minutes after the rest of the table was served, which in the end, fed up with our "Happy" experience, we canceled our meals, left and ended up eating McDonalds. The waiter apologised and explained they were 3 staff down, but whom ever sends out the food in this establishment needs to be embarrassed. And if you go expecting duck, you're better off going to your local pond.

Having been to traditional yum cha at Happy Palace years ago, it was reassuring that the decor had not changed from the 1980's, but the emphasis is now on cocktails and a take off of a southern Californian Chinese takeaway diner, as explained by our waitress. The food was good, with something for everyone, but not very large helpings - need to order a few for sharing and there seemed to be some doubt about the wine list as it was "changing". An interesting experience.

This is a 'Friday night drinks after work and stay on for a meal' type of place. Chinese menu and the food was quite good, lots of Chinese kitsch, which was fun, but the crowd was definitely 20s and 30s Aussies of all nationalities and the wait staff charming, but very anglo. Given the drinks after work vibe, it is incredibly noisy. Book a table and you'll get one, but maybe not the right size. Service a little haphazard, needing several follow ups. Cocktail list quite good, wine ditto.
