“Italian food cooked with flair!”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

This was the second visit and just so enjoyable! Our waiter made some great suggestions of wines to match our food and all I can say is I wanted to lick the plate. I had quail followed by roasted pork and the fennel 3 ways with it was amazing.
Thanks for a most enjoyable evening, it was a treat!

“Lovely little Italian”
Reviewed July 3, 2014

Tucked away far from the maddening crowd in Little Collins Street, the atmosphere is warm, food was typical Italian, waiter was exceptional.

“Staff arrogance”
Reviewed July 3, 2014

We were in Melbourne for the weekend, a group of 8 friends to celebrate a birthday and we had been recommended to go there so we rang ahead to book on the Friday evening and they said it would be fine if we arrived at 6 so long as we were out by 8, that was fine as you would expect a good restaurant to be busy on a Friday night. The restaurant ambience was good, the food was good but the staff arrogance was a problem with disparaging comments about our home city and when one of our group asked about garlic bread the response was " if you want garlic bread you should have gone to Lygon st". It's a shame stupid comments can spoil what would have been another great Melbourne experience.

“Classy & Cosy”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

My wife and I chose 'Il Bacaro' because of its great reviews but also due to it's size and warm atmosphere.

The restaurant staff were prompt, professional and friendly.

We had an entree and salad followed by a main course each...

While the main courses were delicious and of a decent portion (I had the pappardelle con ragu and my wife the Rabbit tortellini with rabbit broth) the entree was much too small considering the price (three bites and you're done)

The salad was decent but didn't come with shaved Parmesan as it should have.

Three glasses of Chianti wine and our bill came in at just under $200. To be honest, I expected to pay around this amount.

Overall, I'd give the restaurant 4/5. I think the food prices are fair, but portions could be increased. We've eaten in beautiful restaurants across Sydney, London, Rome, Florence, Munich and more, and Il Bacaro rates among some of best...just put a bit more on the plate fellas. A man likes to feel full.
