The Marriott Hotel's restaurant has an elegant ambience about it, but it is not at all intimidating. Many people know it for pre-theatre dinner specials - as the Comedy and Her Majesty's are just across the road - but it is an ideal spot to dine and observe Melbourne through huge panorama windows that reveal the city' s diverse architecture. The staff are very attentive and the food very interestingly presented and delicious. Even the glass of wine that came 'free' with the pre-theatre menu was good! Prices are typical of restaurants of this stature; a steak costs $35 but there are other dishes from the menu that are less expensive. Check out their website for more info.
I have been here many times over the years and it has never disappointed. On this occasion, my Gen Y dinner companion raved about the food, and the 180 degree view of Melbourne at street level! You can see it all while seated at the tables by the window - or request the comfortable banquette seating.
