“Fantastic French charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

I chose Bistro Vue for a dinner for 2 for my girlfriends birthday based on a recommendation from clients. My girlfriend loves French food and it was all cooked to perfection. The service was good though could have been better. The maitre de showed us to a table in the middle of the room which had a cold breeze blowing in from somewhere. We asked to be moved to a location without a cold breeze, which they did, but he clearly was not impressed given the attitude we got. After that we did receive a much better level of service from a different waiter - Florian. The atmosphere was very nice as well with French tunes from a piano accordion player and the decor was very French except for a lack of candles on the tables. What decent French restaurant doesnt do candles!!! So one point knocked off for an unsmiling snooty maitre de and a lack of candles.

“Classic French bistro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

Classic food beautifully cooked.

From the French onion soup, through the truffle pasta, duck or steak and fried potatoes to the chocolate soufflé - this is French bistro food at its finest.

I think deserts and the french onion soup were the real heroes of the night.

Quirky room and a great feel.

Service just average compared to the food, but not bad.

“Plat du jour option offers excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2013

While spending a few days in Melbourne we were keen to dine at Bistro Vue without wanting to indulge in the full à la carte option or be tempted by l'humeur du chef degustation which would probably require a special occasion to warrant a fairly expensive evening.

So, we were very pleased to find the plat du jour option. Thursday is poached ocean trout on sorrel sauce which was an excellent taste combination. Service and presentation was top notch. Some effort has been made to create the allusion of an old French bistro inside a modern concrete building and it works quite well at first glance.

The plat du jour includes a glass of wine - it's a bit unfortunate that options were only Australian wines, as alternatives from France would have completed the French food and wine experience.

We'd recommend Bistro Vue - and check out the plat du jour...

“Beautiful Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

I went for dinner with some girlfriends while visiting Melbourne, we had such a wonderful experience. We were all very happy with our dinner and we all of course tried each others dishes. My favourite out of the four would have to be the Pumpkin Risotto. Absolutely Delicious! We all ordered dessert too, one each, which was probably overkill as we struggled to eat them all. My favourite of the four was the Tartetin, our waiter recommended this as we were struggling to order. So glad we took his suggestion. We were very impressed with our waiter for the night, he was very knowledgeable without being pretentious. A little on the pricey side but if you want somewhere special which will not disappoint it's a great choice. Will definitely dine here again while in Melbourne.
