We were recommended to go here but when we first looked in thought 'why would they send us to this tiny little old place' but opted to try it anyway!

We were there for coffee and cake and believe me it more than makes up for how it looks... In fact the more I sat there the more I realised it the look was the character that has obviously been built up over many many wonderful years in business!

sip your coffee and eat your lasagne freshly prepared by Nonna at the bar. A Melbourne institution, not for a romantic night out, but for a great experience and great food. The granita fruit drinks are also pretty good.

We had been told to eat at Pelligrinis so tried kit.

First mistake - no menu - a list of items is nailed to a divider about 2+ metres in the air. Looks like it was here when smoking was allowed as we had a little trouble deciphering it. No prices seem to be found anywhere though.

When we did we ordered the pasta and sat at a bench to eat it - then we found there was no water available to have with the meal.

The pasta came with a 1/2 slice of bread and butter - very small. Not a good look really.

The pasta was OK - not as good as others I have had in Melbourne but edible and cooked well. The sauce was very weak but it did support the taste of the past. Try to see any seafood in the photo.

Drinks were at a premium though - we ended up with a plastic glass of what was fruit cup but tasted like water with apple and some other fruit floating in it. The water was tepid at best and cold water is the optimum for any pasta dish.

Bit disappointed as it isn't inexpensive to eat there but I suppose those that do know what they like - we didn't.

The staff behind the bar weren't anything to write home about but cheered up immensely when the star team from Victorian police turned up to eat - amazing what a uniform does.

We wont return.
