“Lovely Middle Eastern Cuisine”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

We went for the banquet- great value for money: Dips: Hommus, Baba ghanouj, Labnee & Mhamra, Tabouleh, Felafel, Sambousik, Lahme, B’ajeen Ma’anek, Moroccan lamb, Chicken shish tawouk, Baklava, Turkish delight, Halve and Lebanese coffee for two. A real feast- good polite service in nice part of North Carlton looking onto Rathdowne St.

“Great banquet, fresh & tasty”
Reviewed June 21, 2012 via mobile

My family ate at Zum Zum last night. We went for the banquet and were pleased with the range of dips, falafel, pastries, lamb sausage and tagine. The food arrived quickly and was perfectly cooked. All of the vegetables and meats were fresh and delicious. We'll return.

“Always good”
Reviewed February 1, 2012

In the pretty precinct of Rathdowne St Village. A consistantly good choice for middle eastern eat in or take away. Not expensive , service is always quick and the staff are really nice. The tables a bit crowded and it can get a little busy and noisy but thats really part of its charm I think. Its very clean the the food is delcious.

“$40 banquet, filling, well priced and tasty food”
Reviewed January 12, 2012

i must say i love middle eastern food. im hard pressed to find a good middle eastern place around town. it was a toss up between going to Abla's in carlton or this place, also in carlton. price wise i choose to go to zum zum and i was not disappointed. after making a booking and arriving quite early the next night (about 30 minutes early), it was quite busy but alas, we were shown directly to our table. its a small cosy restaurant. it seems like its been renovated. menus look new as well. the place looks good. i wanted to steal the clock that had what seemed arabic numbers on it. very cool.so we had a banquet for 3. i had a traditional home made lemon drink..wonderfully flavoured with a hint of spices. entree was warn lebanese bread with a choice of 4 dips. Hommus, Baba ghanouj, Labnee & Mhamra. and Tabouleh..decent portions and was offered the choice of more lebanese bread, but wisely advised by the waiter not to fill up too much. next up was falafel ; a little dry however the salad that came with it was ace...the picked cabbage, i think thats what it was and the dressing was yum. then we had Sambousik (feta and mint pastries) and Lahme B’ajeen (filo pastry with lamb and pine nuts) drizzled with a pomegrante essence..wonderful flavours. im not too much of a fan of lamb so the Ma’anek- lamb sausages were ok.

the highlight of the night was the moroccan lamb. and considering i dont really like lamb. the meat was melt in the mouth superb. it was cooked in a tomato based sauce and served with rice...beautiful. Chicken shish tawouk..spiced chicken in skewers was next. by then we were quite full.....after about 15 minutes or so, we got dessert which was very cutely arranged, turkish delight, baklava, and halva topped with persian fairy floss and to top it off we had some spiced turkish cofee...

will be back to this place. vastly enjoyed and price wise, well worth it.

“Zum Zum is Yum Yum!!”
Reviewed May 30, 2011

We love lebanese food and always try to have a meal at a place that comes recommended. I usually research good eating places before heading to a city and this was no exception. We walked from Grattan Road thinking it was close, a bit further than I expected, but we were glad when we found the restaurant. The food was outstanding and the service great. I thorougly enjoyed the lamb pastries drizzled with pomegranate syrup and the dips were outstanding - capsicum, smoky eggplant, tzatziki and hummous with warm triangles of lebanese bread. Yum. Could just have eaten that!! We shared a few platters for a late lunch and were too full for more. The proprietress, Dahouk, was from Beirut, which accounted for the pictures of Beirut around the restaurant. She was great and gave us some super Lebanese pastries and some delightful turkish delight to take away with us for a snack!! We would recommend this restaurant to all our friends and will definitely try their dinner menu next time we head back to Melbourne!!
