“Not the best of the Nobu restaurants”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

As there were twelve of us we had a private room. Some of the dishes were terrific and others a little disappointing. You just get the feeling that the whole restaurant is busy so there is not any special service which is surprising as it is very expensive.

“Consistently great food”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

Having been lucky enough to have dined at various Nobu restaurants around the world, when in Melbourne for a foodie weekend we made a point of enjoying a long lunch at Nobu.
From the greeting upon entering to the setting overlooking the river and promenade, the environment was just right for an upmarket modern Asian style of food and a very long and relaxed lunch.
Had to start with the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno. So fresh and tasty this is a light and zingy favourite to enjoy together. Six fresh oysters with three delicious dipping sauces, black cod miso is something not to be missed (expensive but worth it), Nobu ribs that just melted in your mouth and pork belly with honey mustard and apple ginger aioli (table next door had food envy so we shared). I think there was more but the two bottles of Chardonnay had taken their toll by then. Stayed at the Crown Metropol so wandered back to our room and had a nana nap. Bliss.

“Pride Comes Before a Fall”
Reviewed February 8, 2014 via mobile

Yes the food is still good and the tastes unique/amazing. But they are starting to make us suffer for it. Arrogant blondes in black at the front desk. Interminable waits for drinks - tired interior. Inattentive waiters. Sticky tables. A horrible cold air blast air conditioning system - about which you don't dare complain. Special tables for special people "booked 6 months ahead (which often remain empty) ". I love the food by fear that I am "over it".

“Forgot what it's there for!”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

While there were some lovely tastes - especially the wagyu beef dumplings - nobu seems to forget that the general purpose of eating is to stave hunger. A oarty of 5 including 2 fit, healthy, hungry, 23 year old men were left hungry after the 9 courses. All dishes were shared so no one received a plate in from of them. Everyone fighting for a morsel of the delicacy left the feeling that it was all style over substance. At £120 per head including drinks you would at least expect not to be tempted to go fir a mcdonalds on the way home.

“Good but not the best”
Reviewed January 16, 2014 via mobile

I loved the interior , the lovely waiters and staff. My 25 dollar open Australian drink was uneventful and respectfully- not worth to be on a menu of such a trendy restaurant. My friends squid pasta while creative was salty. The 40 dollar steak nobu special was lovely . Meat was deliciously tender but I felt the sauce was overpowering. The sushi platter was fresh but it had a touch too much wasabi . My favorite thing was the spicy soup . It had good flavor but lacked the spice that the name indicates. It's well located and the menu looks interesting but on this nite it failed to impress and as people that enjoy fine dining, we found this place average.
