If the local Indian community pack the place out, it must be good! The restaurant is very basic. But the food was very good.

Had two meals at the Red Pepper. Great authentic Indian food. Reasonably priced. Have set menus (includes a curry and roti / rice) which works to around $12 per person. Ambience is OK, service is nice and food is good

We go to this restaurant each time we visit Melbourne because of it's amazing food and fantastic location just around the corner from the Princess Theatre. Always great food at excellent prices. Love their butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and their naan but all seems great.

Indian food officionados who have been to India often comment on good Indian restaurants outside the subcontinent as "yes it was very good, but if you go to India...". Well, for Red Pepper that comment is unnecessary. It is like some of the best traditional Indian restaurants in India or anywhere. Food, its taste, flavour and variety is exceptional. Then the service, the waiters etc is top class. The walls of the venue have old framed pictures of Simla, the town in the Himalayas where the owner hails from. Quite appealing, without the gaudiness of some other :"traditional" Indian venues. Every time I will be in Melbourne, I will revisit it.

Don't be fooled by the ordinary frontage on this Bourke St restaurant! I visited, left, and returned, to order a takeaway Indian meal after thinking I would have to wait at least a half hour as the queue was almost out the door on a Monday evening. Wrong! Great service, quick, and one of the most flavoursome meals had of Indian food. Two standards, butter chicken & rogan josh with naan & steamed rice included in the price. Great value at $34.90. I'll definitely be back, the place is always humming so don't be put if u think it will take forever. The food was excellent.
