“The Schnitzel Challange”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

Eating 1.5 kg Meat and chips plus 1 liter beer is a feast for some. We have been there last Saturday and about 8 guest challenging themselves. Only one managed, he looked like he will explode any moment. For 75 $ is a good idea to share with 4 friends. Its what we have done, and still could not finish. Great Pretzel and Black Forest Cake. The ambiance similar to the smaller room in Munich Hof Brau Hause . Good place to go and feel like an Bavarian. I surely recommend. For what ever reason its located in Chinatown.

“really good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

Really enjoyed the food here. The bread especially is such a treat. I have found it very difficult as a tourist to get any tasty bread products in Melbourne. They all seem to be so textureless and flavourless. The bread here was great. As was the cured meats and accompaniments that went with it. Including the beer. Well worth a visit. Only gripe is that the welcome downstairs was not very friendly or welcoming. We didn't have a booking but it was very quiet. We were made to fee like we were intruding and had been done a special favour by being taken up to the restaurant. Agree that it is quite pricey and the portions are huge. An entree for two was more than enough lunch for me and my 'bottomless pit' of a 19 yr old.

“pricey”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

Having recently been in munich and loved it we decided to go to this restaurant for some bavarian/german food. Whilst I thought the service was excellent and our waitress was very attentive, the food was only above average. I ordered the pork knuckle. At $34 a plate, the portion size was probably worth it but not the taste. The pork didnt even look like pork or taste like it. The flesh was red like it had been boiled. I didnt ever get a pork knuckle that looked like that in Munich. The sauerkraut didnt taste authentic, tasted like it had just been soaked in vinegar. The pork jus gravy was bland. The pretzel we had to start us off was nice tho. The beer was ridiculously expensive but I guess this is Australia after all. This place is fine and if you go here you will have a good time, just dont expect to eat and drink here on a budget

“Portions are huge and quality good. Great atmosphere.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

Went on Friday night and it was packed. We were seated right in front of the band, which did make if difficult to talk amongst the table. Beer and wine is not cheap, but food is very good value. No need to order entrees of desserts, we were full on one course and it was delicious. The music and dancing is entertaining. A good night out. Just request a table away from the band.
