Description: Upon opening our doors in 2009, we were thrilled to receive the The Age Good Food Guide's 'HatAward' and have maintained it ever since. Complementing these achievements, we are very proud of Head Sommelier, Travis Howe, who not only won Sommelier of the Year but also picked up the 2013 Wine List of the Year. Nestled in one of Melbourne's iconic laneways (basement Oliver Lane, and Flinders Lane), Coda is located in the busiest and most dynamic culinary precinct the city has to offer. A stone's throw away from the Yarra River, Flinders Street station and Federation Square, the restaurant enjoys hosting a diverse group of diners from frequenting locals who live and work on its doorstep to diners from all over the globe. Upon entering the restaurant you will be greeted by a member of our friendly team headed by Mykal and Kate Bartholomew and Executive Chef Adam D'Sylva. The trio has assembled a dedicated team with highly sought-after experience from many international and Melbourne-based restaurants. Coda's relaxed environment provides a versatile setting for a range of engagements. Whatever your occasion - from a quick pre-football meal, to a long Sunday lunch, business dining or a cosy seat for an anniversary - we look forward to your visit. While bookings are highly recommended, patrons without a reservation can enjoy the full menu at the bar.

Having read all the other reviews, I assumed it would be difficult to get a seat for 1 but
I wandered in at lunch-time and found a seat at the counter.
A wonderful menu, but being lunchtime I didn't want any of the more substantial courses.
I had 2 scallops which were the best I have had in years and a tempura bug.
Beautifully cooked and wonderful produce, Coda is as good a lunch as I have had in a long time - Exciting restaurant and food and a very professional service.

I took my husband to Melbourne for his birthday and we could see the signage for this restaurant from our hotel room in the Hyatt. It was down a little cobbled street and was buzzing with laughter, delicious smells and a really wonderful atmosphere. We were given a table at the bar which was really funky and informal - we loved it. We could see into the kitchen and had the best service from the bar man who really knew his wines! The food was amazing and we just had the nicest evening. Thank you to the staff for giving us a lovely evening, with good service and particularly as it was our first trip to Melbourne. We'll be back!

Cool place, cool owners, great food and booze. Really buzzes and a great place to people-watch. Nice to have a truly open kitchen where you can see everything being prepared.

This would have to be in the top 2 restaurants Ive eaten in around the world. The waiting staff were the best I have ever experienced, the food was even better and we loved the fact we didn't have to order, we just told our waiter to do it for us. We loved the food so much we came back another night with another friend who said the same as me. Its a funky place to dine, where you look up through the windows at people walking on the street, the wines are top notch and its worth every cent you pay for! Well done Coda. Please can you set up a restaurant like yours in Christchurch NZ.

My wife and I spend time in New York regularly and we rate all other restaurants against what we see there. We get a feel for what the restaurant reminds us because NYC restaurants are second to none in terms of service, food quality etc. We have dined in Mario Batali restaurants Babbo and Otto and this restaurant, Coda, had the same feel - a sense of community dining that has character - plenty of staff all focussed on their task and professional and mature in their relationship to patrons. We sat at the bar as we didn't have a reservation and that was entertaining to watch the kitchen in action and to be served interesting glasses of wines chosen by the staff (always a good idea if you are undure - if it's their choice they always give you something fresh). So this is one of the best of the modern, bar themed restaurants in Australia. And it would hold its own against the best in New York. Well done, Coda.
