Wagamama's is good but not really authentic Japanese. A Japanese friend of mine said it wouldn't last 3 days in Japan. The food is tasty and value for money is ok. However, if you're looking for real Japanese thhis is not the place.

Having first experienced Wagamama many many moons ago when it first opened in London I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon Wagamama at Southbank whilst out with the family. It's a good location with a number of tables over looking the river, opposite Flinders Station. A wonderful opportunity to enjoy their food again and introduce the kids to the Wagamama dining experience.

Sadly the entire meal was very very disappointing. The portions were on the small side and without exception we all agreed that the food was simply bland and almost tasteless. Between us we had a seafood ramen bowl, a chilli chicken ramen bowl, a couple of chicken Katsu curry dishes and a few others that I can't recall. We also had a number of starters which were also pretty small and rather forgetful.

The restaurant was almost empty so the service was quick if a little unfriendly. We were all tempted by the dessert menu but having been so let down we decided to give them a miss.

There are many many places in Southbank and Melbourne that offer better Japanese and Asian food. We won't return and would also suggest giving this place a wide berth. A real shame as Wagamama always offered sizeable portions of tasty food served up in a great atmosphere. Perhaps I'm just being nostalgic again.

I've always liked Wagamama, but found the last couple of times that that the service was slow and food has lost it's edge

We were looking forward to a great meal stared off great got the drinks, place the order
2 entrees and 2 mains and we specifically told the waiter for starter and for the main.
Entree (we thought we ordered) came out great so far then the main meal turned up seconds later.
Told the waiter that must be a mistake as we just got the entree, was asked what you do not want it, and my husband explained we have just received they entree. Strange we thought till 2 mins later the floor manger came up and asked why we sent it back, she informed us there is no entree there are sides and wagamama means food in Japanese were it just keeps coming !
NO wagamama has a meaning "‘naughty child’.
So order as you go and that's if you can get a waiter to your table.

The food is greatly overpriced for what it is. The food is ok, but not worth what they charge.

When I pay $4.50 for a Lemon, Lime and Bitters, I do not expect it to be a bottom of the barrell brand.

We were part of a large group, and at least three people waited well over an hour, and the waiters had to be flagged down to bring this to their attention. Not my choice of ways to get a free meal.
