Ibis Budget Melbourne CBD
Ranked #116 of 160 Hotels in Melbourne
Reviewed June 2, 2014

Stayed in Ibis Budget Melbourne CBD with 3 other friends.

They only have one lift which is slow and a bit noisy.
The room was very basic and small. The bathroom also very small. There were no hook or bar on wall to hang your clothes and no place to put your luggage, so you can only put your luggage on the narrow path floor. No thermos for hot water, no glasses/cups.
Linen & towels provided. I recommend you to bring your own toiletries, because they only provide hand soap in the bathroom.

But the location is very prime, in the middle of the city, just across the Block Arcade! You just walk outside the hotel and already in the strategic CBD area. It's just a walking distance to flinders street, swanston street, collins street, and nearby. If you need public transport, you can easily find and catch a tram just outside of the hotel. Also various good restaurants nearby the hotel. It's very well located hotel!

Dear Veelka,

Thank you for taking time to write some feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed the fantastic location.
We love it when guests convey their experiences, we believe it's really helpful to fellow travelers.
The rooms are compact and basic.
Please be aware we do provide boiling water facilities on level 1 in our breakfast area.
If you need a fridge we recommend you book a family room, as we are trialing fridges in theses rooms at the present time. We also put out complimentary tea and coffee after breakfast for our guests to utilise.

We hope you had a great time in Melbourne, thank you for giving us a try, we hope to see you again soon.

Sincerely,

Tracy

Me and my fiancée booked into this hotel thinking the worst, but came out pleasantly surprised. In the middle of the cbd, close to all the shopping hotspots and only 15 minutes walk each way to both the MCG and Etihad stadium. The only bad thing was the toilet itself was a little cramped but that's all.

Unless planning for a relaxing getaway, I always opt for a convenient budget hotel at city center as I always spent most time outside exploring than staying inside the hotel. ibus Budget Melbourne CBD is exactly the type that I'm looking for.

First of all, the location is great!! If you are the type of travelers that love exploring city on foot, this hotel is so convenient that almost most of the Melbourne major attractions are within walking distance. If you need public transport, you can easily catch a tram just outside of the hotel. Love shopping? The block arcade is just opposite the hotel. Love food? Various good restaurants nearby.

Secondly, the staff are helpful and friendly. I have a few experiences being approached by different staff when they sensed that I'm confused or needed help. They answered questions patiently and I felt comfortable going to them for tips / clarifications.

The entrance from the street level seems shabby but you will feel more comfortable after getting into the hotel upstairs. When we arrived, it was during breakfast time. It smelled good, and the basic breakfast seems not bad at all. We got early check-in. The room we stayed was very basic but we have no complain as it was clean and comfortable. We did use the coin laundry service (if I remember correctly it opens from 9am to 9pm), there are 2 washing machines, 2 driers and an iron so you better plan your time properly.

For the price that we are paying, I'd say this hotel is really value for money.

Very well located in the Melbourne CBD which made it easier to find appropriate public transport to get to certain locations. You could still get around to many places by foot. Basic breakfast services. Our flight was early and we asked if we could have an early check-in, it was possible however the specific room we booked was not yet ready. An alternative room was offered, which we took so we could get some sleep. Location of the room wasn't the best. It was on the same floor as the reception near the intersection of the lobby and hallway of other rooms. You could hear a lot of traffic in the morning, however it wasn't that bad. The view was of an office building directly opposite with the hotel's windows covered in cob webs. Shower, vanity and toilet - nothing to complain about.

Laundry facilities on-site. Lockers are also available for a few $ to personal belongings in.

Overall, the price we paid for a few nights I was happy with (approx. $386 for 5 nights).

Room Tip: Choose a room which is not on the ground floor.

The environment was clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful. The service was acceptable with such price. However, the water drainage system of the sink was blocked. Luggage could be stored in the hotel after check-out but the fee was a bit expensive.
