This was the 3rd Ibis budget hotel that we stayed at during our recent travels so we knew roughly what to expect – a hotel which although feels a little like a backpackers, it does attempt to give you all you need if you just need a peaceful place to rest for the night.

PROS
Cheap and affordable. No frills or thrills but neither were they promised. The room is compact and ready to go.

The reception was always friendly and keen to help.

Very cheap compared to the alternatives.

It's right in the heart of the city and a minutes walk form Flinders railway station.

CONS
As is usual for an Ibis budget hotel, the rooms are small and coat hangers hung on the end of the kids bunk bed are supposed to serve as a wardrobe. Rather annoyingly the metal frame bunk bed kept squeaking every time the kids so much as wobbled a finger. The hand basin and shower were separated from the room by a curtain although there was a separate toilet.

There’s nothing to stop random strangers coming in from the street, straight up to the rooms. When we arrived, another guest was complaining about having his bags stolen, we weren’t surprised.

They don’t even pretend to be able to solve your parking problems, but not only is there no affordable parking to be had, you cannot even stop outside to offload your bags as it is a very busy single lane road with no overtaking possible because of the tram. We parked in the underground Wilson car park on the next block, which even with the special after hour rates was a pretty expensive place to park for just 30 minutes. (By the way we found the most affordable place to park was at the casino. It’s a 15 minutes’ walk away but you can park for $15 a day, which was far cheaper than all the Wilson car parks around the city centre.

If you're looking for a low-cost but clean hotel in the center of Melbourne this is the solution. The rooms are small (there are the bed, a small desk, the toilet separated from the shower that is in the room so as the washbasin :-) and there is no wardrobe) but there is everything you need.
The best aspect is the position, in the heart of Melbourne. I'd recommend it!

We stayed for a girls weekend in town after seeing a musical. The rooms are small but clean & its all you need if you're after an inexpensive night. The rooms consist of a queen bed plus a single bed bunk. The bathroom is just a shower with a basin just outside of the shower with a curtain for a little privacy. The toilet is separate. All in the one room.
It's close to shops, cafes & flinders station. We used our Accor membership discount too so it was a good deal.
