When prices were are hiked up over the F1GP weekend, this very basic hotel suited our needs adequately for 2 nights. We spent so very little time here that it really was a base to leave our belongings and sleep. The location was ideal as it's central and easily accessible to the trams and a 5 min tram ride to Southern Cross station. The Queen room was compact, with a small shower/basin sectioned off with a curtain. I wish I'd not booked the decidedly less than average breakfast online ($9pp) as we didn't even have it on our 2nd morning due to leaving too early for it. This really is the next level up from a backpackers, it's basic, clean and comfortable.

Normally this hotel doesn't rate highly when we head to Melb for a few days of R&R, but when we are going down to see a show and only need a bed for the night - this place is ideal. It's right in the heart of the city, we find the rooms are fairly quiet and for the price we paid - its great value. Will definitely stay again.

Recently rebadged as IBIS Budget Melbourne CBD, this is very much a hostel undergoing the transition to a budget hotel. The room I stayed in was very basic: shower, toilet, television and an unusual bedding configuration (queen with a single bunk on-top). Despite that it had a powerful air conditioner and I was overall happy with the stay. Location is great and if you see your hotel as just somewhere to sleep you'll be more than happy here.

Room was comfortable and large, There was no remote for the TV. The external side of the entrance door was very dirty and badly needs cleaning. No bedside lamp which due to the dim overhead lighting made it impossible to read.

Myself and three 40-ish mates shared a quad room for four nights during a boys trip to the F1 Grand Prix. Yes, the room is very basic - no fridge, drawers, towel hooks etc, and a shower that is essentially part of the room! I wouldn't take my wife here for a romantic getaway!!! But...the room was very cheap, the beds and bedding were clean and comfortable, our room was quiet and the staff were great. There is a Coles Express mini-supermarket and a bottle store one block away, so not having a fridge for storing food or keeping the beer cold didn't matter! Everything we needed was close, including public transport. We had a great time, and all agreed we will use the Ibis Budget (the hotels new name) again for our next F1 trip. If you are used to staying in the Hilton, stay in the Hilton! But...for the money you pay here, you can't go wrong,

We stayed in a family Room, 2 adults/ 2kids , comprising of a Queen bed and a double bunk, It is budget, but thats what we wanted as we are there for Grand Prix and not to spend day in room. Room had a small fridge, Bunk beds are very noisey, so kid 1 put matress on floor as he moves around a lot. Less noise. from bunks as kid 2 doesnt move around alot. Very small room, but was value for money, Supreme Location, Subway next door, Coles supermarket, McDonalds, and heaps of other food places on the same street . Trams are super close/ Would stay there again.

This place was very convenient, clean as a whistle, safe, and a good price.
However, you have to take everything you need with you. Nothing is provided except a great comfortable clean bed. No phone, no washcloth, no bath mat, no glass, no nothing---but it's a budget place, so it's not a big deal. Just be aware you need to take everything with you.
