Location: 15 mins walk from Southern Cross Station, but with a very big luggage I would suggest a taxi or Skybus hotel transfer from/to airport, as the pavement is quite hilly. The hotel is a good walk to almost all the attractions e.g. to Eureka Skydeck or Queen Victoria Market is 15 mins. We didn't use the free city tram or shuttle throughout the 3 days.

Check-in: 24 hours reception. Staffs are friendly. We arrived too early at 9.30am so can't get a room. But they have a room to store our luggages temporarily before we head to Philip Island tour. Security guy stands at the entrance every night to make sure only hotel guests are allowed.

Room: Paid AU$317 from Friday to Sunday, 3 nights for queen bedroom. Though I like the the shower separated from the toilet, I don't like the fact that the towels hanger isn't close enough to the shower. Meaning, you either call out your mate to pass the towel or come out to retrieve it yourself. Unless you have long hands to reach out to the hanger, then no issue ;o) Towels don't smell fresh but small issue for me.

Food: I didn't try the hotel $9 breakfast. There is a whole stretch of cafes along the same road including Subway, Nandos, Pie Face, McDonald (free WiFi).

This hotel is good if you don't intend to stay in much. If you are not into backpackers or shared bathroom facilities, then this hotel is the next affordable choice in CBD :o)

Dear Aznilah,
You do a great reveiw, very thoughtful and detailed.

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort. As a traveller I always really appreciate a well thought out reveiw.

As a hotel manager they are such a valuable tool for us.

We hope you had a great time in Melbourne, the hotel is a great base for touring and getting around to all of the sights and shopping.

It's not flash, we know, and you where spot on with your comments, what we do hope to do for you is to keep more of your money in your pocket, so you can do the things you really want to do.

Sounds like you had a great trip. We look forward to welcoming you back to any of the F1/ Ibis Budgets in the future should we suit your needs. :)

Safe Travels & Happy Adventures.

Kind Regards,
General Manager F1 Melb CBD (soon to be Ibis Budget Melbourne CBD)
Tracy.

As we only had hand luggage, we would have appreciated at least a water glass/utensil to use over the 4 days. A shower mat would be great to prevent slipping when you get out of the shower straight into the room on a slippery surface.
We could not open our curtains as 4 windows of the surrounding buildings had a full view of our whole room. This meant we had to have lights on during the whole day. Very claustrophobic!
The group of very rowdy teenagers next door to us the first night, made us very nervous for the rest of our visit, but they left the next day after an all night drinking session and no sleep for us.
There were absolutely nothing in the room that indicated that we were in a Formule 1 Hotel and zero personal touches. The only aspect that will make me use this hotel again, is the location and I will try to be in the room as little as possible.

Dear 706Rita56,

Our inner city high rise location does present some challenges thats for sure. We have NO parking and in many of the rooms NO veiws. You're so right!

But the upside is the location, it is just unbeatable is'nt it. So close to everything. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Whilst we dont have a lot of amenities in the rooms, we do keep (plastic) cutlery, crockery and other items on level 1 for our guests to utilise as required.

So cups, knives & forks etc. We also have a fridge and microwave and boiling water unit in this area thats all accessable 24/7. Would have been much nicer for you if we had let you know this at the time.

If you do visit again please don't be shy. We don't have much but what we do.... it's all yours for the asking.

The guys & girls at reception don't bite (well not very often, I got rid of the last guy we could'nt break of the habit) and we love to look after people, we are here to address any issues that pop up.

This also includes noisy inconsiderate next door guests. Let us know and we will address it for you. Every one deserves a great night sleep. We have ways of dealing with rowdy people. I'm sorry we did not do this in this instance for you. It's not a good indication of the care we like to give our guests.

With the very low level of people on staff we do rely on our guests to make us aware of issues as they arrise. It's not ideal and it can result in some dissapoinment if we dont explain ourselves well to you at checkin time. I will address this with my team so they remember the importance of this vital check-in communication. I thank you for bringing this to my attention, it's greatly appreciated.

We hope you will consider us again if you think we suit the purpose of your next trip.

Safe travels & Happy Adventures.

Kind Regards,
General Manager F1 Melb CBD (soon to be Ibis Budget)
Tracy.

I booked the cheapest room I could get in the ACCOR group of hotels. (We were there for a conference and only stayed in the room between 10pm and 6:30am) And cheap it was. The room (407) was very basic. We were a bit shocked by the contrast to what we are accustomed with. But, once we settled in and got accustomed to the way the hotel runs we found we had most of the facilities we needed. They just weren't all in the room. After all, my main comment is that the bed was comfortable, The bathroom/shower was good with plenty of hot water and the room heating worked well once we got the hang of how to set it. A negative though is the lack of a wardrobe and with suits to hang was a bit tricky.

Quite a good choice for backpacker or traveler with lower budget. I stay here for 2 nights with cheaper prices in Melbourne and at such a great location. My friend and I stay in a 1 Queen Bed and 1 Overhead Bunk room. The room is small, clean ensuite with bathroom/toilet. The window of the room is quite small, and facing alley. Hence basically can't see sunlight in the room.

To me, I do not have any issue staying in this hotel. No conflict and every process from booking to staying seems smooth. The room are smoke free.

The location of the hotel is at the strategic place. Walking distance can go to the major shopping area, China town and almost every where in town center. The Subway is just next to the hotel and you can grab the meal you want easily if you lazy to walk around.

Overall good for budget traveller, backpacker and very strategic hotel to stay with nearby transportation and shopping/tourist spots.

In my opinion this hotel is a good choice if you want to stay in a central city area. It is near the main station and there are lots of shops and restaurants nearby. For tourist sightseeing it is located also very good. The room is a little bit small, but ok for two people. It was very clean, but the bathroom was really small. The shower has no door to the sleeping room, the toilet is extra in atiny room. For the price it was ok.
