“A good alternative to usual Southbank fayre”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

I visited P J O'Briens on a sunday evening for a meal with a friend - I was staying in a nearby hotel for 10 days.

A plus point to me is that it is different to most of the other bars/restaurant on Southbank. It is not difficult to find- take the first entrance in to Southgate after turming left off the pedestrian bridge (from the city)and it is just inside the Southgate complex on the right. I would class it as a typical Irish/British pub - a little 'home from home' if you are British which is good.

A pint of Carlton draught is eye wateringly expensive at $8.50 - say £5.60. Fish & chips were very good at $19. A good atmosphere - tv screens to watch the sport and it can get quite busy and I suppose lively at times.

In summary, a nice change from hotel room service or the plethora of 'samey' restaurants along side the Yarra (Southbank). A decent choice of 'British' style basic meals and a place where you could comfortably eat by yourself and I wish I had come here more than the once.

“Taste kangaroo with a pint from home!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013

Staff are friendly and helpful! The food and drinks are to a very high standard! The only negative, is it's location. Although along the river front it's in a shopping complex so it's kind of hidden!
