Description: When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes. It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

Having lived in Spain for a few years I was excited to try this tapas bar.
The decor really good and pretty authentic.Sangria and the jerez were really good.
Tapas menu ok.Morcilla was delicious.Pigs ear-very diassappointing...I have never had it deep fried???it was really fatty..need to be a la plancha and crunchy?
Tinned stuffed calamari in squid ink....Why are all these restaurants ie: PM 24 using tin produce. Stuffed squid ink you would never get in a tin at a tapas bar ( well not when I was there)....why
Menu could have been a bit more creative...where was the pulpo??
I would have liked to see some angulas...are there any in Australia
Staff were excellent

Staff managed to squeeze us in prior to the dinner service, for a quick tapas experience. Having read all about Movida's I was delighted be accommodated with no booking. The service was personal and timely, décor great and the outlook onto Hosier lane with graffiti artists doing their thing, quite fascinating.
While the food was a bit pricey it's all about the experience really, and the food offered an explosion of taste and texture. Loved it.

First off I'd like to congratulte this restaurant on it's choice of waiter. Ours knew the menu very well, made great recommendations and was friendly througout the meal. The food... Well you just have to taste it. It's simply wonderful. We started with some tapas and had 2 main course to share. The smoked mackerel is a really great tapa. The anchovies and spicy chicken were nice too, but the mackerel was the star here. As a main we started with the wagyu, which was delicious and finished with the lamb neck. The meat was juicy and tasted absolutely fantastic.
This place is defintely worth a visit. It's so worth the money.

We were invited by some good friends who told us you have to book days if not weeks ahead. We had to have the 10 course tasting menu as there was 5 of us (a little rigid for such a small number) but most of us enjoyed most of the dishes - a little heavy on the anchovies with 2 courses. I enjoyed the barramundi fillet with mussels in a parsley sauce. The centre piece of the meal was pork fantastic crackling but it was served a bloody rather than light pink. We were slightly annoyed with the reaction of the waiter who questioned our judgement but took it back to the kitchen for 5 minutes more. A little surprised also that the tasting menu did not include a dessert. Service was reasonably attentive but the wine could have been served more efficiently - we discovered an amazing orange Sauvignon blanc. All in all a nice evening but could have been slicker for such a well revered and high priced venue.

Would return.
