Description: When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes. It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

“Tapas goodness”

I have eaten here that many times and at every visit my taste buds have been delighted. It is best to take the advice of the chefs if you aren't fussy because what might not sound good-TASTES EVEN BETTER than what you normally like.

“Good food wine and service”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We had heard about this Tapas Bar and went in on Friday afternoon looking for a table for that evening. We were told it books up 4/5 weeks in advance but they have a walk in area and if we came before six we at most would have a 45min wait. We went at half five and got a table straight away beside the window and were able to watch bride and grooms getting their wedding photos taken on Hoiser lane. The food was AMAZING and the wine too! The waiters were very helpful and knowledgable. The only thing I will say is the demand for tables meant you felt a little rushed, but completely worth it! Please come to Perth MoVida!

“Incredibly Memorable Dishes”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Came here for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon (1:30pm) with no wait. We were very excited to try MoVida given the reviews and some dishes were incredibly memorable.

The most amazing dish we had was the House smoked Yellow tail kingfish. I've had yellowtail sashimi and crudo often but none that tasted like this. The dish was delicate with a unique smokey flavor and presented beautifully.

We also loved the spiced chicken escabache tapa on crisp crouton. Unlike many of the other dishes, the portion size on the chicken was generous. I could have eaten 2 of these. The deep fried salt cod and the breaded pork jowl with roast carrot were delicious as well.

However we didn't care for the Hand-filleted Cantabrian Artisan Anchovy on Crouton with Smoked Tomato Sorbet and the Squid Ink Croquette with Cuttlefish

MoVida is not cheap but some dishes like the Yellowtail were memorable enough to make me visit again!

“Delicious food, matched wine and personal service”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Popped in mid afternoon and offered seats at the counter. Watched the street artists painting the alley. Tapa's of the highest quality. Especially good was the beef cheek on cauli purée...beware - our lovely barman said "it's smooth cause it's all butter". Oh my. Lovely matched Spanish wine. Happy.

“Very Good”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

We ate hear on a Thursday night and had a variety of tapas and the large paella between four of us along with a few glasses of wine and some beer. It was a great atmosphere and found the staff to be very friendly and assisted with choosing some nice dishes and wines. The tapas and paellla and drinks were very good but not great.....probably because we dont find spanish food to be as flavoursome as other cuisines.
