There is a lot more to Italian food than pizza and pasta and this restaurant gives you plenty of chances to explore what other delights there are. The decor inside is dark and brick clad, which might make you think you are in Italy until one of the Aussie accented staff comes to quickly take your order. Food was delivered quickly: 3 out of 4 loved their dishes, one was a bit muted about theirs. Despite that slight disappointment for one, we'll definitely be back.

The food here was the most amazing meal I have ever had!!! It was absolutely delicious. The staff were fantastic. They were happy, polite, and ever so eager to help. The service was also very prompt with everything coming in very quick time. I have never wanted to promote a restaurant so much

If you've ever been to Lygon Street you know how overwhelming it can be trying to choose which Italian restaurant to dine at. Well folks, you needn't waste anymore time, Il Cantuccio is the real deal! My partner and I have dined here 3 times so far and we will continue to visit Mario and his charming restaurant.

So far we have not been disappointed with anything we've eaten. We usually go for the Pasta Mista where you can sample a variety of pastas from their menu. Our favorite is the Fettucine Gamberi
e Rucolo. Il Cantuccio is also a byo restaurant and only charges a $2.50 corkage fee per person so we usually bring along our favorite red wine. We had some family visiting from Texas and Cairns and decided we would take them to our fave spot on Lygon. One of our family members ordered the Veal Scaloppine with mushrooms and she said it was the best one she ever had.

Other extras include the beautiful alfresco seating (with heaters on cooler nights), the great service you'll receive, and the free parking during weeknights. If you park at a certain parking garage (just meters from the restaurant) they will validate your ticket and parking is free. Make sure you give this place a try!

When Lygon Street is literally HEAVING with Italian restaurants - how do you choose? Tripadvisor, of course....!

We picked this venue as it was the most highly rated along Lygon Street and we were NOT disappointed! The place was absolutely packed when we arrived and I was a bit nervous as there were tables with small children (and I really did NOT need a brat-attack after a stressful day...) but we were led to the small, intimate back room where we could look out at the bustling restaurant but feel cosy and peaceful inside.

There was only one small irritation: a little bit of a wait to order drinks (but they WERE absolutely jam-packed). Once the drinks order was in, further service was efficient and speedy throughout.

The menu was so inviting that I couldn't decide - and then I changed my order after I'd submitted it! "No problem at all...!" smiled our lovely waitress.

The wine we ordered was out of stock, so we were offered a similar bottle, and this resulted in a very pleasant chat with our host about wine styles and preferences.

The food - needless to say - was exceptional! Juicy steak for me, gigantic plates of spicy pasta and meatballs for my husband and son . We went off-piste for a dessert and asked if they could make us up an affogato. Again: no problem. And the coffee is sensational! I often get migraine after coffee - but this would have been WORTH it! My son had the citrus tart - again, fantastic!

It's sensational. Go! The portions are large - so go with a hearty appetite!

Out visit here was fantastic. With 2 nights to eat out on Lygon St, you need to go here. Wonderful staff helped us all along the way with choices, nothing too much trouble for a fussy teenage daughter and food was enjoyed by all.
Place was full and it wasn't noisy, you need to visit these guys- you will be happy.
