While visiting Melbourne we chose Florentino's upstairs silver service restaurant as a special restaurant to celebrate my birthday. It didn't disappoint, from the service and staff to the food and service. It is high end in all regards, including the price. Be prepared to pay top prices but be assured that you will receive top quality food and attention.
It is formal yet unpretentious, strict yet friendly. Apart from the food you pay for, the restaurant provides plenty of taste treats between courses, such as the olives, bread sticks and olive oil to start the meal to accompany our sparkling wine, sweet treat at the end of the meal, even though we didn't have dessert, and the petits fours with coffee. The little extras are a nice touch and show a genuine interest by Florentino's in the dining experience for the diners.
The quality and inventiveness of the food was incredible. We enjoyed entrees, mains and a cheese platter. We chose, in discussion with the wine waiter, wine by the glass to start the meal and accompany each course and they were terrific. Certainly one of the best meals we have had in any restaurant in Australia or overseas. It's not a restaurant most people could afford on a regular basis but, for a special occasion, it would be hard to beat.

My partner and I visited Grossi Upstairs last night for her birthday, and we're blown away by the food, service and atmosphere.

From the moment we were met at the door and seated, to the moment we were escorted down the stairs by our lovely host the whole experience was exemplary!

The staff went above and beyond to ensure the night was perfect, creating a personalised tasting menu you specifically for us. The food was delicious, and the wines suggested for us were the perfect accompaniment for the meal.

The last perfect touch was Guy personally coming to meet us in the dining room, and getting a photo with my partner for her birthday.

I would gladly return to Grossi's, and cannot recommend higher!!!

Thank Tim S

This bar is an off-shoot of Grossi Florentino and a great place to have a drink and a light meal. The service was excellent and the food interesting a great. We enjoyed authentic Italian snacks and a great selected of cured meats and sausages. If you are looking for an interesting bar with excellent food try Ombra and you do not have to spend a fortune.

Too expensive, for both food and wine. Italian restaurants in close proximity far better value and less arrogant. Food nice - but definitely underwhelming - could do just as well at home. As visitors to Melbourne from a regional area we were most disappointed - no reason to come to the city for this quality or price. Trading on reputation only. A wine purchased for 12 euro in Italy was $75.

Hello
Thank you for your comments. We are not sure where you dined but was disappointed to hear you found the wine too expensive. I must ask you also to bear in mind that that particular wine costs us a lot more than 12 Euro also.

I took my wife for lunch at Florentino Grill on the 20th of September to celabrate our anniversary. We had been other times at Florentino (both upstairs and downstairs) but this time I am sorry to say I was a bit disappointed. Service was quite good but probably missing of that extra bit that is normally part of the Florentino experience. I had the mussels broth as entrée which was nice and the hand Shaped Orecchiette Pugliese which were overcooked (the wrong flour was used) and very bland as dish. I am pugliese and I do know how that dish should taste. The flavours did not mix together at all... it was like having a de-constructed plate of pasta. My wife had a calamari dish which was part of the special of the day. Dish was quite nice until she tasted some coriander... Sorry but coriander should not be used in any Italian dish as it is not an Italian spice just like Chinese never use rosemary in their dishes or Japanese never use sage in Japanese dishes! My wife then had Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare as a main and she also felt that her pasta dish was a bit blend. Sorry guys (and Guy :-D), we love you and we will keep supporting you at Florentino, Mirka and Merchant, but this time something was missing!
