While visiting Melbourne we chose Florentino's upstairs silver service restaurant as a special restaurant to celebrate my birthday. It didn't disappoint, from the service and staff to the food and service. It is high end in all regards, including the price. Be prepared to pay top prices but be assured that you will receive top quality food and attention.
It is formal yet unpretentious, strict yet friendly. Apart from the food you pay for, the restaurant provides plenty of taste treats between courses, such as the olives, bread sticks and olive oil to start the meal to accompany our sparkling wine, sweet treat at the end of the meal, even though we didn't have dessert, and the petits fours with coffee. The little extras are a nice touch and show a genuine interest by Florentino's in the dining experience for the diners.
The quality and inventiveness of the food was incredible. We enjoyed entrees, mains and a cheese platter. We chose, in discussion with the wine waiter, wine by the glass to start the meal and accompany each course and they were terrific. Certainly one of the best meals we have had in any restaurant in Australia or overseas. It's not a restaurant most people could afford on a regular basis but, for a special occasion, it would be hard to beat.
