“Tasty!”

Great Greek food, even with limited choices.Good service and location is great too. Although when the door is open cigarette smoke enters (like most places - why does Melbourne not become civilised and ban outdoor smoking?).

“A fantastic meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

Delicious food, big portions, friendly service and a diverse and well priced menu. We sat inside rather than outside but were given a table right at the front so had a great time people watching. Easy to find on Chapel Street - can't wait until our next visit!

“Greek hospitality at it's best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

4 of us had dinner here last week as we were in Melbourne for the tennis. Licensed and BYO but one bottle of wine only per table.Prices of drinks reasonable and plenty of choice.
We were quickly seated and orders taken within a few minutes. The wait staff were friendly and the "lady owner" came to our table a few times during the evening to check everyting was OK and to talk about the tennis. Typical Greek hospitality!
My spanikopita was beautiful - soft pastry with lots of filling and the whitebait lightly battered and a generous helping. Our friends ordered the seafood platter for 2,which had 6 or 7 different seafood/fish items including scallops and mussels and was so big they didn't finish it all! We also ordered the spit roasted lamb with vegetables and the lamb cutlets - two small racks , 6 cutlets in all - which were cooked to perfection. It was truly delicious!!!
The Greek custard desserts were light and tasty.
The bill was very reasonable considering how much we ordered and the size and quality of the meals.
This restaurant has been around for a long time and it's obvious why. We hadn't been there for quite some time but it has maintained it's excellent standard. Highly recommended to all who love Greek food and hospitality!
Worth 5 stars!

“Great menu options”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

We stopped here wanting a light lunch only and the share plates menu had good choices. Nothing incredibly unusual for a Greek restaurant, but just right for lunch when you are not overly hungry. We shared a Greek salad and a trio of dips with lightly toasted bread. The salad was very fresh. Lots of cucumber, tomato and Spanish onion without all the lettuce that lots of places often include. The babaganoush was particularly tasty and the bread very lightly toasted and warm.
Service was prompt, not overly friendly but we were in a hurry so that was fine.

I'd definitely recommend it. Inside seating is very atmospheric, with black and white tiles on the floor and a good Greek ambience.

“Great food & fantastic service! We'll be back....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012

This is the second time we have visited the Greek Deli & Taverna and both visits have been great. Would thoroughly recommend the banquets - they are great value for money with lots to eat and the food is delicious. The staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome. This will definately be a restaurant we will visit regularly.
