Our group of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The food is very traditional French fare and cooked well. You will find all the typical favourites on the menu here. I have to say the Foi Gras was superb. The duck breast was nice, and the Rabbit was also tasty. The wine list is extensive and a tad overwhelming so we asked the waiter for a recommendation. The one he chose was perfect for each on the different meals we had ordered.

Went to France Soir again on this trip to Melbourne. Great French cuisine and efficient and attentive service. The restaurant was packed as usual on a Monday night. Reminded me of a busy Saturday night in Paris ! If you are lucky enough to get a reservation to this Melbourne eating icon you won't be disappointed.

Don't come here if you want quiet. Or for a romantic evening where you whisper to each other secretly. But if you accept that this is a crowded, busy, boisterous bistro with staff moving through at a million miles an hour and a constant re-filling of tables as guests come and go, then France Soir is for you. The menu is diverse, the wine list bewildering but offers good options especially, not surprisingly, from France and Australia, and the food when it arrives is delicious if relatively simple fare. Everything that might be considered typically French is here but that is what the restaurant trades upon and what its hundreds of fans expect. sure it's hard to get a table, and yes you may wait a while but that reflects the popularity of the place over many years. It's a great family favourite with us and it never disappoints.

Bookings are a must at this restaurant, regardless of what day of the week. It is small and noisy, but somehow it works. For entrees the lamb brains were excellent, light and well cooked, while the Carpaccio of scallops is a favourite. For main course the fish of the day (sole) was done to perfection. There were satisfied groans as the Boeuf Bourguignon was devoured, while I consumed an excellent half roasted duck with orange sauce. It is hard to find a restaurant that can cook Crepes Suzette well, however here there is no hesitation while a creme caramel was also eagerly consumed. The wine list is extensive, and we resorted to the advise of our waiter for a red - it turned out to be perfect. BYO possible during the week, but I wouldn't bother. The tram stops outside while South Yarra railway station is within a few minutes walk and well worth the trip.

Went for lunch with a group and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service is superb, even as we got a little rowdy.
At lunch they allow BYO wine, which was perfect for us with an expert in our party. No real need though as the wine list in house is extensive.
The oysters and the whole fried snapper were favourites, but everything was great over three shared courses.
There's may be nowhere better in Melbourne for a long lunch.
