“Unchanging High Quality Classic French”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

We've been going to France-Soir on and off over 20 years and it's always a fun night (or lunch) out with a top quality classic French menu, beautifully cooked and presented. There are always a list of "specials" written on the mirrors of this small, lively bistro, including a rabbit dish - which the chef really knows how to cook to perfection. All the great favourites are there, and hold back some space for the desserts - crepes suzette of course, but also isles flottantes, profiteroles, etc, etc. The service is excellent. You'll be greeted in French and you can continue so if you wish, but you won't be thrown out if you speak Anglaise, or even Franglaise! It can get noisy when the champagne starts to flow - and by the way, the wine list is truly huge and very, very good. Enjoy!

“Consistently good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

busy, packed, crazy, wonderful. French bistro food at its best, epic wine list and just so much fun. Snails, terrine, steaks, tartar, all of it.

Only warning is that sometimes your late booking may not be on time, just ask them if you should go to the pub across the road for a beer and wait.

“No better than all the other superb reviews”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

She and I were attracted to France-Soir because of its convenient nearby location, very good to excellent reviews and opening hours from 11 am until midnight .... good for a meal before heading off the the Australian Open tennis, or afterwards; and several of the French AO players call it home. But we settled for lunch with a friend. It's a large space, a successful format unchanged for many years. We had almost three courses, food for three pre-tip $147, very good value for the quality of the food. Highlights were the assiette of charcuterie, the pork special (a faux-fillet with mustard sauce) and the famous FS creme brulee. The hidden secret for lunch time is BYO, with no fee, or $14.50 fee per bottle at dinner time. A really good and recommendable experience overall, especially for a long, lingering lunch. Fairly easy street parking outside and nearby.

“Everyone in Melbourne who likes food has visited France Soir.”

Food perfect, wine list. Good spot in South AYarra. This place has been going for years and is always packed.
I find the tables too close together for my liking.

“Noisy crowded and wonderful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

The tables aew small amd close to one another and the restaurant is long and narrow. It's a crowded and noisy place but the food is wonderful and the wait staff is 'old school'.
