This place is one of our solid staples. We can take some friends here, bring a long a bunch of kids. The place is big enough and the staff are well trained enough to work out who should sit were and how they will affect their neighbouring diners.
There is a lovely wood fire in the centre of the restaurant which is very inviting on a cold Melbourne night. The place is lively (like most of Lygon st eateries) but I have never found it overbearing.
If you like nice italian food, a little on the rustic side, with a couple of finer points - this place would work for you. Wood fired pizzas, pasta dishes you recognise, a reasonable selection of beers and wines.
The waiters are friendly, know their menus and are happy to help you decide what you want. Some of them even have a charming Italian accent which is used to great effect.
Pretty much everyone we have ever taken here comes back again with their friends. It's just that kind of place. I suppose that is why it's been open forever and continues to do a roaring trade without the having to resort to hiring annoying people to spruik the restaurant aggressively to the passing trade.
If you're looking for that Lygon St atmosphere that tourists will love - Copperwood is a good bet...and it has the added bonus of being only a short stroll from Brunetti's!
