“Good food with great staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

This place is one of our solid staples. We can take some friends here, bring a long a bunch of kids. The place is big enough and the staff are well trained enough to work out who should sit were and how they will affect their neighbouring diners.

There is a lovely wood fire in the centre of the restaurant which is very inviting on a cold Melbourne night. The place is lively (like most of Lygon st eateries) but I have never found it overbearing.

If you like nice italian food, a little on the rustic side, with a couple of finer points - this place would work for you. Wood fired pizzas, pasta dishes you recognise, a reasonable selection of beers and wines.

The waiters are friendly, know their menus and are happy to help you decide what you want. Some of them even have a charming Italian accent which is used to great effect.

Pretty much everyone we have ever taken here comes back again with their friends. It's just that kind of place. I suppose that is why it's been open forever and continues to do a roaring trade without the having to resort to hiring annoying people to spruik the restaurant aggressively to the passing trade.

If you're looking for that Lygon St atmosphere that tourists will love - Copperwood is a good bet...and it has the added bonus of being only a short stroll from Brunetti's!

“Great service, pretty spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013 via mobile

Attentive and professional waiter.

Ordered entrees and a main pizza to share.
Decent pizza but the waiter really worked hard and our glases were never left empty or plates uncleared. Decent coffee also. Not sure why everyone had bad experiences but food was respectable along with the service.

“No Go.....”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Recently went to this restaurant to celebrate my 60th Birthday with family, I have never been so disappointed. The food was barely eatable, one pasta dish was actually crunchie....???.I rang to let the manager know how I felt but he didn't seem to concerned said they NEVER get complaints,my suggestion was for him to go to trip adviser & read what people have said, not good. Just won,t go back again.

“Great night out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

We came to Lygon Street with visitors from interstate that wanted to dine there and Copperwood was chosen by looks only when walking up the street. We had no reservation but were very quickly accommodated by the friendly staff. Once seated our drink order was taken with plenty of time to choose our food. We were told of the specials. Lamb shank ragout , the fried gnocchi were stand out dishes alng with the seared scallops. Couldn't,t fault the service or food and were all very good considering how busy it was. pleasantly surprised by the bill as we had entrees, mains desserts and drinks. If I had read previous comments prior to going we probably would have bypassed this restaurant, but it is obvious its just a very personal experience on the night.

“Don't just keep walking......run!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

The wood burner looked attractive on a cold night. Unfortunately we were seated near the door which opened frequently and sometimes was held open by a conversing waiter. We watched open mouthed as the waiter poured about a glass of wine all over the table ,missing the glass entirely and completely oblivious to his error until it dripped from the edge of the table. Much mopping and apologies but no replacement of the wine. Next I was offered someone else's dinner! When mine did come, spaghetti with fish ,there was very little fish and the dish was very oily. The lasagna was pretty meatless too. Cold and discouraged we left and had desert elsewhere.
