Complimentary Bacon and eggs and a good coffee with a decent buffet, king size bed, very clean rooms, good internet access, very friendly staff, a well priced and nicely renovated pub dwnstairs, 5 minutes from southern cross station and the markets and centrally located- pretty well sums up this place. This hotel is one if those that i take their card and put it in my cards holder for future reference. Given the price this place is a real find. Highly recommend it.

Having b'fast in the ground floor make-shift dining hall is a Russian-Roulette nightmare!
The bread, butter, jam - are there for sure. But hot items? The night before, they'll say hot items will be available at xx-am. The next day, when you think you'll have hot items at the given time, whamm! An A4-size notice at the entrance will tell you another... later.. time!
To add to your woes... the clock in the dining hall had slowed down by 1.3hrs.. & no one had bothered to adjust it to to the correct time. The muti-tasked kitchen staff & cafe supervisor seems to be working under a cone of silence - they don't greet you or tell you what will be available.
The big-plus for this property is its location - near the Abo-cultural outlet, Flagstaff Gdns, Queen Vic Mkt, City Circle Tram pickup pt, Southern Cross stn, Skybus terminal, Etihad Stadium. The room we had was rather crammed. The good-night chocolates left on the bed was a nice touch... though they only appeared on the 2nd night of our 3 night stay! The bathrobes & extra toilet roll in the room is a pleasant surprise.... so were the daily replenshiment of cookies! Fantastic location too... where tour coach pickups are concerned...the pickup pt is usually at Backpacers' on King St... a short walk from the hotel. Suggestions = be consistent with the chocolate surprise. Honour the time confirmed for having hot items available at breakfast. For guests heading out on dawn tours, give them a pre-arranged take-away snack bag.

We stayed here for one night in a standard room - paid just $99 for the night which included a cooked buffet breakfast.
We arrived at the hotel about 9.30am in the hope our room may not be ready - we were told by the very friendly Reception that it would be ready in about 30 mins (which we were very happy about after arriving on an early morning flight!) and we were invited to go to the breakfast room and help ourselves to any breakfast which was left over and a coffee whilst we were waiting. fantastic!!
Yes the room was a little small, but it was seriously worth it for a modern room with all the extras... plunger coffee, biscuits, mints, safe, dressing gowns and the location was perfect, right in the city.

This Hotel is very clean and quite new. The rooms are on three levels with elevator access. Each is well appointed with basic needs. Some are much smaller than others and the main negative is that the rooms facing King St are subject to a lot of traffic noise from very early in the morning so ear plugs are a must. Walking distance to QuVic Maerket and DFO and close to City Circle Tram. From airport $47.00 by taxi A hot breakfast is included and though adequate the menu items are limited with scrambled & fried eggs, bacon and pancakes the only hot items. 3 or 4 cereals and toast the other offerings. Would definitely consider staying there again for the price. Staff very friendly and helpful.

We came across Hotel Sophia on a last minute site and booked 2 nights. We were quite surprised that our tariff included a cooked buffet breakfast as generally these are optional extras. As accommodation providers ourselves you tend to be critical of others in the same industry; but we could not fault the staff, service and our room. We were so impressed with the added touches in the room e.g. Plunger coffee, twinings tea, biscuits, mints on the bed, extra towels in the bathroom, king size bed, dressing gowns, safe in the room, internet access and to top it off, the room was spotlessly clean. We dined in the Hotel on the ground level and had an antipasto platter, greek salad and 2 glasses of wine for $29 - great value for money. The Self Service Buffet Breakfast had a great selection - juice, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, bacon, eggs, pancakes, fantastic variety of T2 (tea) and plunger coffee. Where can you get all this for under $100 a night. Thank you, we will definately be back.

Lovely, quiet & very clean Hotel with great staff . Within walking distance to Casino and a short trip by tram to reseraunts and the theatre. Jump on the tram and walk around Docklands and have fish and chips by the water. Secure car parking close by at a very reasonable rate. A very nice place to stay.

Lovely, comfortable rooms. Pefect king size beds. The BEST breakfast. Great central location. Friendly, helpful staff. Extremely good value and an all round enjoyable stay. Will defintately return. My only suggestions:- turn down the volume of the TV in the Breakfast Room or TURN IT OFF! and it is a bit annoying to get local Queensland news and ads on the TV, in Melbourne.
